307 starting problem.

Post by Stevey 54 »

Hi guys, I'm new to the forum, 2005 307 1600 petrol auto hatch owned for two years 70, 000 on the clock. so here is my problem it came with the car.
In park. key into ignition. turn the key click and buzz ignition on, turn the key to start nothing, so no power to starter. if I keep turning the ignition off then on again repeating this action for two or three minutes I here another buzz and the car will start.
The colder the weather is the longer it takes to start, sometimes it can be ten minutes, but it never fails to start. So far I have fitted new battery, new starter, new plugs, new coil pack, new crank sensor and new alternator. all fuses checked and electrical plugs and sockets have been checked for any corrosion and no fault codes found. BSI reset tried numerous times, When the car has done a few miles and is warm, when stopped it mostly starts again first turn of the key but now and then takes a little longer. In the mornings I go and turn the ignition on ten minutes before I need it then it starts, but it has been embarrassing a couple of times when calling in for fuel and at the MOT test. oh yes the key is fine with a new battery.

Any ideas anyone?

You really need to get it diagnosed with Peugeot Planet 2000 and see what fault codes are logged (if any). Replacing parts randomly is expensive and may not solve the problem as you have found already.

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum. A guess (this is a GUESS, mind) suggests this could be the ignition switch. However, as Marc has said, you really do need to get her onto a diagnostics session to see what errors there may be. There are forum members who have suitable diagnostic equipment and are willing to help (although over time some of them have 'gone quiet' and may not respond to a PM). Thanks for the info so far guys, at least I have some more things to check. I will have to find someone I can trust with the diagnostics check before I commit to that, it may cost me more than the car is worth at a Pug dealer.

I would agree that the engine bay fuse box (also called the BSM) is a very likely candidate for these symptoms, and when these fail, there is often no diagnostics information to pinpoint the problem. If you can find an identical fuse box cheaply from a scrapped car, it might be worth a shot.

The problem is that there are probably several variants of this fuse box used on the 307, depending on build date, engine type and trim level, so you need to find one with matching part numbers.

If you post up the VIN (which will, for security reasons, be obscured so only Forum staff can read it) a Moderator can let you know exactly what parts your car had when she rolled out of the factory. That way (once you have had a diagnostics session) you can make sure to get the CORRECT part for your car.

I'm not suggesting your issue is a fusebox without a diagnostic, but the part for the engine fusebox is 6500CK, item (1) below:
