Barry Cade has been gnawing away for a while but tracked him down :!:

But questions remain and the image of Barry himself still proves elusive :-D

I have owned at least three of the cars in the supermarket picture - wish modern ones were as easy to repair - although not so unreliable.

We have never needed one of these, but what about down South?

Apparently if the advert was to be believed "No Ideal Home complete without one"

What is it?

That looks suspiciously like a water softener - and the only reason I know that is because there's a tall cylinder just like that in the basement of one of the houses at work :)
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

You can't make a consistently good cup of tea with our well water which is a soft as it gets, no chalk or limestone here. Its clean enough but acidic, eats through brass fittings, no trace of lime scale though, its also very rich in iron which can mark the bathroom suit.

From the Archives.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 28 Mar 2018, 21:43 The return of the deposit on drinks bottles had me recalling the Pop Man who used to deliver all around the North East.

In our area we had the Co-op, and Villa from Sunderland and Grays from Spennymoor, and Woods from Durham PopMan wars!

So do you remember your pop man....(yes you will have to be of a certain age)

Some from around the Country maybe

Corona (Wales and many other locations), Tovali (West Wales), Alpine, Sykes, Garvies, Bon Accord (Edinburgh)

..and was the vehicle of choice a Bedford TK Wagon?

In northern Ireland it was Maine brand we called him the lemonade man. He sold all sorts of soft drinks iron bru cream soda raspberry etc. I can't recall a cola but there probably was. You could get lucozade too, it had a stopper that screwed into the bottle and yellow plastic film around the bottle.

Thanks doctle. Here is another little snippet from the archives about Maine. My favorite bit of the FCF finding out about all sorts of random stuff!

For over 65 years The Maine Man has continued the tradition of delivering quality soft drinks to our doorsteps.

Families throughout Northern Ireland have fond memories of regular weekly orders of their favourite flavours such as Sarsaparilla, American Cream Soda, Pineappleade and Cloudy Lime in glass returnable bottles.

‘MUM … IT’S THE MAINE MAN!’
Pineappleade......like the name!
