Re: Wax/polish
I wash my C5 with snowfoam, then turtle wax and rain-x on the glass. Under the bonnet its multi surface kitchen cleaner for the metal and WD40 for the plastic and rubber. Good luck
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!
I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

Re: Wax/polish
My priority has been for wax on the underside.
Last Rover (P6B V8), BX, and now XM all got thorough underside and cavity waxing, and all remained totally rust-free - really important for hydraulic pipework!
Current kit is now a Sealey SG18 wax injector/spray gun, which uses an air-line (to pressurise the container) and a cavity wax of choice... 4CR cavity wax... less expensive and far more durable than waxoyl.
Other brands available

Re: Wax/polish
I was just away to ask about under sealing it. All my cars have had under seal on them. I just did it by hand on the drive way haha (old skool way)

Re: Wax/polish
That's what I used to do, using cheap plant-spray bottles, and warmed waxoyl, with an added long nylon pipe for the sills and box sections. A miserable and lengthy job. The Sealey gun just makes the job quicker, cleaner and less wasteful.

Re: Wax/polish
Try and use a product that contains no salt, even though salt is a cheap powerful cleaner it is very good at starting corrosion.
Its difficult to get a product that doesn't contain salt but they do exist.
Silkolene car cleaner doesn't contain salt and Muc-off contains a type of salt that is not corrosive. ( trade secret)
On the subject of wax , use a good carnauba wax with no polish such as simoniz (polish contains an abrasive which thins your paint).
If you dont have faded paint don't use a polish.
Rinse your car thoroughly to get rid of grit first.
If You get your engine clean use a dressing with silicon such as gt85 which will make it much much easier to clean next time and stops dirt sticking.
Dont use a pressure washer as it can force water in to electrics and bearings.
Its slower to use gentle methods but its better in the long run.

Re: Wax/polish
I never use silicon, it dries out rubber very badly as it breaks down the plasticisers making a brittle layer that deepens as it cracks.Gammyleg wrote: โ15 Oct 2019, 13:25

Valid point Alasdair
Avoid contact with any rubber
I used to use dressings with silicon on my motorbike but I was carefull not to get it near the tyres or rubber components.
