DS5 - a couple of questions

Post by p4n05 »

Good morning all,

As per the title i have a couple of questions.

1) How quickly does your engine heat up? After driving around for around 20mins it is still not at optimum temp. Any ideas? Is the thermostat stuck? If so where is it in a 2012 DS5 2.0 HDI?

2)Rear demister; does the top rear window work? When i turn the rear demister on the main rear windscreen starts to demist but not the smaller rear window. Is there a separate fuse or anything i can try?

Many thanks

I wouldn't worry about it if there are no warnings. If the temperature is too high there will be a message.

The engine management ECU retrieves the engine coolant temperature information and sends it to the dynamic stability control (ESP) ECU which relays the information to the built-in systems interface (BSI) via the multiplexed network CAN IS).

The BSI then sends the engine coolant temperature information to the instrument panel on the CAN INFO DIV multiplexed network.

The matrix screen on the instrument panel displays a message if the engine coolant temperature is too high. If the electronic temperature gauge is not moving at all then let us know. It should move from zero at cold, but what position 0-100% does yours remain at?

As for the demisting - I'm not sure what you are referring to - there is only one rear windscreen - at (3) on the diagram. If you are referring to the 2 rear quarter light panels (to the left and right of the rear windscreen, then no, they are not heated.

I have same car and it takes eternity to heat up the engine. For instance, today in my town was about 15C when I made first drive from home to office (4,5km distance) and it barely made 1/4 temperature (out of 90C), only slow urban drive. My town is not so big, so during cold periods engine is mostly mildly heated (longest uran drive lasts about 15-20min), basically this is typical for diesel engines because they need quite more time to heat up than petrol engines.

Good morning Marc,

Thank you for the comments. I will stop worrying about the ages it takes for the engine to reach optimal temp. I was worried that it takes ages for the engine to warm up as i drive over 15miles to work in a mix of traffic and motorway and it still doesnt reach the optimal temp.

Regarding the rear windscreen i m referring to the glass panel just above number 3 in your diagram (the one that then matches up to the roof. If you are looking in the rear view mirror there is the "bottom" rear windscreen then there is the "blade" and then is another glass panel before the roof.

Many thanks

Can’t see any membranes in that so I assume rightly or wrongly that they don’t clear. However if anyone can answer. I hit the demist button yesterday and although the screen cleared quickly I questioned whether the mirrors had the option as they both didn’t clear?

The DS5 models do have heated exterior mirrors as standard.

However the operation of the de-icing function varies and is dependent upon several factors:

The de-icing of the mirrors varies in time of operation as a direct result of the exterior temperature - the higher the outside temperature, the less time the heated mirrors operate. From -30 °C (39 minutes operation max.) to temperatures greater than -5°C (8 minutes max.)

Furthermore, the de-icing function also depends on battery condition and electrical load shedding. In other words the BSI will cut the demisting function to keep a positive battery balance. However the light on the rear demisting switch can remain on for up to a minute even though the BSI has deactivated the request - after a minute it will switch the lamp off.

Of course the function only works with the engine running and with current generation.

So for any exterior temperature greater than -5 °C, it will only function for a maximum of 8 minutes, or far less than this if the battery condition is poor.

Hi Panos,
i know which piece of glass you are refering to,its the one between the rear spoiler and the roof.
When i look in my rear view mirror i can see 2 elements that run down the left and right side of this piece of glass,
Last winter when it was frosty my rear window cleared but not that top piece of glass so maybe they are not meant to heat up.

Hi ryan282,

That may not be a heater elements, it may be a radio aerial. Does the DS5 have a roof aerial at all? If no aerial, or a stubby sharks fin, then that could be the case.

i think you might be right paul,
ariel wire seems to be the logical explanation for those wires to be there but serve no purpose.

there is no visible, physical ariel on the car.

That’s because the aerial is incorporated into the screen panel (like screen printing) so that’s why you can’t see it. You may see fine elements in the panel, that’ll be it.

Hi.
I know it's an old post but just for info, attached is a pic of the trim removed showing the radio antenna connections.
I was doing something else and remembered this post so thought I'd put this on 👍
