Citroen C5 Juddery Acceleration at 2000rpm

Post by ragoody »

Evening fellow members,

I have recently picked up a 2008 2.0 HDI which I am starting to have a few issues with but the main one being if I accelerate slowly and reach 2000 rpm I get a Juddery feel feedback, as soon as i accelerate harder and push the turbo harder it is fine. If I accelerate a little harder from low revs to above 2000 all is fine, it is literally on slow acceleration and if at a steady speed at this rev.

Took the car to garage as I can't get my Lexia to connect and the codes seem to relay back to the turbo actuator which I have been quoted approx £900 for replacement fitted.

Could it be anything else as this is about what the car is worth?

Regards
Bob

It would be easier to give advice if you shared the codes with us.

Thanks for the reply guys,

I will call garage in the morning as they did not pass these codes over and unfortunately don't have the means of reading them.

The VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

Ok, so:

P1351 is a common fault - and means the pre-heating circuit relay is supplied, but the plugs are not. The preheating control unit indicates that the relay is open despite being commanded to close by the ECU for 5 seconds.

You may note the following symptoms: Lack of power, jerking, stalling, starting problem.
Suspect: Glow plugs, harness or the pre/post heating relay. However I have had this on mine since I've had it without issue.

P2563
This means there is a turbo position copy signal fault (positive difference). The measured position is above the reference value by 20% - so too much turbo pressure.

This will occur when the engine speed is above 1500 RPM and with an engine torque higher than 120Nm.

Downgrade Mode: When the fault is active, there will be inhibition of flowmeter plausibility faults, Torque limitation for the traction control and you cannot undertake a forced regeneration of the particle filter using a diagnostic tool.

Symptoms: Lack of power, Noise, Smoke from the exhaust.

Suspect: Turbocharger position copy sensor, Electrical harness, Connector, Vacuum problem, the variable geometry of the turbocharger is locked, Particle filter, Air metering valve.

P0238
Turbo Pressure Signal - short circuit to positive. This means the voltage of the turbo air pressure signal is higher than 4.8V (Turbo pressure greater than 2530 mbar) for 2.5 seconds or 125 engine revs.

Downgrade modes: Deactivation speed limiter until the next time the ignition is switched on, Deactivation cruise control until the next time the ignition is switched on, Cutting of the EGR valve: Fuel flow limitation, Deactivation of the regulation of the turbocharging.

Symptoms: Lack of Power, Slightly higher fuel consumption, Noise.

Suspect: Turbocharging pressure sensor, Turbocharger position copy sensor, Turbocharger blocked in position: Maximum turbo, turbocharger: Damaged, Turbocharging pressure sensor.

So there's the codes and explanations for a few pointers. I would start with the Turbo issues and leave the glowplug one for now.

Thank GiveMeABreak,

Read this late yesterday and gives a start, I took the two sensors off from the air pipe whereas the turbo pressure sensor was a little dirty the one directly above it was absolutely caked in the horrible oily gunk, cleaned this up as well.

I presume the turbo is at the rear of the engine and have been told the actuator cannot be purchased separately, as I am resuming this is the position sensor mentioned.

Can i ask the best way to start and order to attack it with?

Regards
Bob

I am not an expert on these engines, but this fault code jumps out as being significant:

Either that sensor is giving a bad reading, or the actual boost pressure is extremely high.

If there are no better ideas I would start by replacing that sensor.
