Back to the serious bit.
Just had an email from my eldest son who has sent for one of these:
Makita Impact Driver
Silly price but he reckons it is PayPal protected.
God knows what he wants that for but he has become DIY obsessed and is buying tools tight, left and centre.

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
That certainly looks cheap! As it's from Hong Kong I would suggest it may be a copy but I have had Makita power drills in the past which were all pretty robust and well engineered. I'd be interested to know what it's like when it arrives

No need really, you can always borrow his!
I actually had an impact driver duel with my B&Q special versus my "adopted" son's DeWalt on a set of rusty nuts down either side of a morris marina's frame. We both reached the back together so I scored it as a £70 victory!!

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
Problem is he lives in London and I am near Newcastle. He was supposed to come up a couple of months ago, then a month ago, then a couple of weeks ago.
I have a Titan router here for him, among other things.
He has a house near Jeff Beck and the Jamiroquie geezer but he and his current girlfriend have each bought half of the same house somewhere south of London too - hence the DIY - he's been building bunk beds for her daughters, who live in Japan (she is Chinese) it is all very complicated - he just resigned from his job in medical research to do a PhD that the company were going to pay for but keep shunting it, so he's paying for it himself.
I've just been sending him some of my Chinese music for her to sneer at, as I am sure she will as it is westernised for the most part. Takes ages as I have to listen to each one before sending them.

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
That eBay item will almost certainly be on a stolen account. The feedback scores for it don't stand up to examination. I used to be bothered enough to report items like that and the account would be suspended - sometimes within minutes, sometimes it took a hell of a lot longer. I gave up reporting them as it was so easy to spot the fake / stolen accounts that I came to the conclusion eBay couldn't be bothered to even try to do it themselves. To give an example, within half an hour on a Sunday morning it was child's play just to identify well over £300k of fake ads on various listings.

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
It annoys me that eBay/Paypal are so laid-back about such fake listings. OK, so sales of that Makita drill only account for £4.5k in refunds/lost profits, but listing like that go on day and night and all those refunds are eventually paid for by the customer's who use Paypal.
It also annoys me that people buy items like that - it really ain't that difficult to work out it's a scam listing........

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
They are on Screwfix for £120
https://www.screwfix.com/p/makita-dtd15 ... bare/1955p
And even on Amazon at £59 some of the reviews suggest it's not up to spec. - overheating and battery issues.
It won't be the first time Amazon have been caught out with fakes - people ordering originals and sending fakes back that get recycled as 'originals'....
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Makita-DTD152Z ... filter-bar
Get him to pay on a credit card of possible - (even via PayPal) for added protection.

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
It's not the Makita drill on eBay that's a fake - it's the eBay listing that's a fake. The drill doesn't exist and no one will get one in the post.
For a start - Makita DTD152Z drill don't sell for £28.65 including shipping - not from Hong Kong, not from here, not from anywhere, so that should set alarm bells ringing.
Then there's the fact that most of their eBay listing template has been lifted from this listing : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-DTD15 ... 3177503810
Then there's the fact that the feedback for the seller doesn't stand up to scrutiny. The vast majority of their transactions were in US dollars, then they haven't bought or sold anything for over a year, now they're suddenly selling cheap Makita drills in '£' Sterling from Hong Kong. The feedback they've received for the drills so far has solely been from low / zero feedback customers, one of which is already no longer a registered user.

Another - almost certainly - fake listing which has been put up within the last 24 hours : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-DTW28 ... 3913966515
Compare it with a genuine listing from where the above has taken part of the page template : https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Makita-DTW28 ... 3206816813

Re: Lidl and Aldi Car accessories
I have noticed Chinese/fake sellers always have links to unrelated items on their listing. The first link seller also has mens shoes, teapots, urns etc somewhat eclectic for my tastes.
As an aside I got one of the Lidl corded impact guns for my birthday earlier this year and it has exceeded my expectations. Very good turning torque even on my mates transit wheel nuts. It came with 4 deep sockets which I didn't use but they seem ok. Being corded it's limited to the shed and the length of the extension lead but no battery to die and I'm getting on a bit so it makes life easier.
