Citroen crosser dpf warning light p1350

Post by 1995dj »

Hi
Our newly acquired Citroen crosser 2.2d poped
a warning light last week. I believe it's the dpf warning light. I've read the codes and p1350 and p1351 were present. Reading the net it suggests a glow plug or the control module is at fault. I poped down to euro car parts and purchased new plugs and a control module ( 5 year warranty and genuine module). A morning later and a painful hand all fitted. I reconnected the battery, started the car and the warning appears. I cleared the codes (cheap DIY scanner)
And restarted p1350 and p1351 are pending.
I see that the module controls each glow plug so I have checked the resistance of all of them and they are the same at 1ohm. I've checked they are not shorted to each other or to 12v. The control module is not a relay but a solid state control module with two connections to the ecu. Has anyone had this issue ? Can someone provide the ecu pin numbers so I can check the wires from the ecu to control module.
The engine temperature is mid gauge and the fuel ecap sensor is working.
The engine is the Pas ford land rover unit and has covered 126k and is on a 57 plate

At that mileage I would have thought it more likely that you need either the Eolys fluid refilling or the DPF cleaning/replacing or, possibly, both. That's without interpreting the error codes - someone will be along to confirm/deny this before too long I hope.

Post the VIN up - this is a Mistubishi essentially with very little Citroen about it. There are 2 variations of 2.2 vehicles and so I need to know.

Generally the glow plugs won't really put a depollution message up - just about every HDi I've dealt with has a glow plug error -

P1350 is the short circuit to earth error.
P1351 is the more common 'Pre-post heat box: The plugs are not supplied although they are controlled' error

I'll have a better idea when you post your VIN

So, is this the PSA engine or a Mitsubishi one? If Mitsubishi do they even use Eolys?

Both Paul.

There are 2 variants of the 2.2 and the 2.4 is a Mitsubishi 4B1 engine. The transmissions are Mitubishi. Basically this was a Japanese designed and produced vehicle for Citroen and the 4007 was the equivalent for Peugeot.

The vin is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

When I changed the cam belt there were ford and pas logos on the water pump and I've been told it's the same engine in the freelander

Ok, so you have the 2.2 DW12MTED4 engine. Unfortunately they never seemed to bother with the technical info for these on the fault codes - probably as they only made them for 4 years due to poor sales, with production ending in 2012. So the fault code is a common one and is probably just as applicable as I mentioned earlier.

What would people suggest next other than a gallon of petrol.
I borrowed a snap on reader today - same codes and it will not regen.
Which pins does the relay module connect to on the ecu ??

Sorry to ask for more detail - 1320 is which of the 3 ecu plugs ?
The middle one has 7167 2-c on it

And looking for reassurance- the ecu is designed not to have the plugs removed without drilling out the tamper proof screws??

Ok, so look below - the diagrams are vastly too complex to show everything - so they are split to show only the relevant area required (that's why there can be hundreds of them...)
Symbols.png
In this example, only the Pre/ Post heating relevant items are shown.

In green I have marked what can be an ECU or a Relay or a Sensor.
Along the edges highlighted in yellow are the relevant plug connectors. In the case of the Engine ECU (1320) there will be lots of connectors. But in this instance, we are interested in the Pre/ Post circuit for the Glowplugs - so only that plug is shown - in this case the 48 Pin Grey plug.

On the Pre / Post heating Control unit (1158) there is an 8 Pin black plug which is the relevant bit as it connects to the engine ECU.

So going back to your question - the engine ECU will have potentially multiple plugs going into it from other sensors and components - but you are only interested in the 48 Pin Grey one. The plugs are indicated by the yellow highlighting. The Pin outs are shown in the diagram for the plug - in this case for example, A2, J1, F2 etc.

So for example wire 1386 (Pre/post heating diagnostic info) on Pin 3 of the 8 Pin Black plug of the Relay control Unit (1158) goes to Pin A2 of the 48 Pin Grey Plug on the Engine ECU.

The pins are marked on the plugs / sockets.

As for the screws - these are crucial plugs so are fixed with screws to help prevent them falling out under the weight of the wiring harness, as that could be disastrous when motoring of course to suddenly lose all engine power and just about everything else. They should be removable - but may need a technique or tool to do so and should not need drilling out.

Found a diagram of the control module 1158 and the diag line is pulled up to positive.
I would have attached a picture but cant see how too.
I've manage to measure the voltage and its rises to 10.5v with the ignition on and does not change during the short time I measured it. Would this is be about right ??
If I purchase lexia 3 can it look at this signal ?
Would lexia 3 let me do a forced regenerate ??

The pre-heating time varies depending on engine temperature and the pre-heater control unit is piloted by the engine ECU.
Item 5 is the Glow Plug Pre-Heating Box:
glow.PNG
It will be either:

NAGARES BDL/7-12
CARTIER 51 252 002

Part number: 598140

Diagbox will allow a forced regeneration, but remember the glow plugs are only used where needed to assist with regeneration - not all the time - but usually when the engine is not getting to temperature quick enough - and secondly, if there are any fault codes with the engine management system, it will not allow a forced regeneration for obvious reasons. A forced regeneration puts a big strain on engine components and it will rev the engine over the 3000 mark, which it cannot do if the engine ECU has gone into a specific backup mode.

So it all depends.

The car could need the DPF backflushing or replacing as I suggested in post 2. Can the differential pressure across the DPF be monitored in Diagbox on these Mitsubishi based cars?
