Maybe this is one of the problems with constantly changing the post titles within a topic...

Try clearing your browser cache Mick (CTRL + F5)

Mike should be able to confirm if it’s anything odd though.

Please look at tonight's exchange in "How many miles in August" for an actual description of what is happening. I should mention that I have never been able to access the Jukebox thread at all. My screen just freezes when I try so there may be a problem with my browser IE10 or DDG. Cheers Mick :)
Mick, IE10 is well out of date now, have you considered using another browser like Opera or updating your browser? Support for IE10 ended nearly 4 years ago (no longer updated).

Hi Marc, Yes I tried clearing the cache but I still get the same result. I have still got IE10 because I tend to believe in "If it aint broke..." I did try Edge when it first came out but didn't like it, I stay off google as much as poss so chrome is out, I found Firefox kept crashing so I stayed with IE10. However I'll load Opera and give it a go. Thanks. :)

Opera is pretty ok for the most part and if you're a bit paranoid ( :rofl2: ) it has a built in free VPN that you can toggle on and off from the address bar. Unfortunately with Browsers, the 'it it aint broke' doesn't really apply - as HTML standards change, older browsers won't be able to display pages properly or be able to comply with later advances in coding and functionality.

An example of this is on one of my iPads - a second generation iPad 2 - that cannot be updated anymore, so the operating system is stuck on IOS 8.**. That means the built in version of Safari is also stuck at the last version supported by the operating system. The browser crawls along these days simply because of the browser version. Compare that with one of my newer iPads with the latest IOS and that positively flies.

Just for your info Mike, following Marcs suggestion I have changed to Opera browser but I still get the same wrong result when clicking the Kate Bush link, still going to the quiz page. The first link does take me to the right place now but I cannot view the youtube video, the screen just freezes. :)

NewcastleFalcon wrote: 01 Sep 2019, 09:52 Mike, here is a screen print from the relevant page with me hovering the cursor over the heading of the relevant post. To put a link in any of my posts to another forum post I right click and select copy link location then post the link into my post.
Going back a step, how did you navigate to the page that you posted the image of. I can see the problem in the url of that page, but need to find the code that generated that url. I think that this issue probably only affects links to posts in topics with many pages.

No worries it won't cost you anything apart from time - the 'Dark mode' is great if you prefer that - which I find easier on the eyes as I spend just about all day on my rigs.

Oh, the days of MS-DOS! Syntak was required bedtime reading back in the day - they days of speed editing Autoexec.bat and config.sys files.....

Not quite as bad as installing windows for workgroups 3.11 from 3.5" floppy disk on 600 PCs and Word, Excel, Access, Publisher and PowerPoint all from 15-20 floppies for each App! Those were the days.

Trying the dark mode now, and yes much more comfortable. I've obviously got a few years on you Marc, I started with a black box (RM 380L I believe) with 2x8" floppys each taking 512k which were upgraded to 5.25" drives taking 1.44Meg each as we "modernised"! Running PC DOS and using Wordstar for word processing and I can't remember what for numbers. The crazy thing to me is that I could produce a perfectly constructed letter with 32K of ram and a clockwork printer not very much advanced from a teleprinter. Now we "need" a zillion Gig just to put the same letter into production :-D :-D :-D Hence my "if it aint broke...." attitude! :rofl2:

I am pretty sure that this is caused by a bug in the forum software, but I am not sure if it recently introduced, or only rarely apparent.

I have just tried going into Jukebox from the top. ie click on Board index, then on off topic lounge, then on jukebox and it took me into the latest post which I could play. all is good there now. Before I would get into :( the page but the screen would be frozen and I couldn't scroll or post or anything except use the back arrow to get out again. However the link to Kate Bush in Neil's post is still taking me to The Dirty Dozen quiz page!!

PS Mike, would it be possible for you to move this post and all the previous ones back to Neil's at 20.33 last night with the original link, to a new thread as they are not proper to the miles in the month thread and will possibly annoy other members looking for the proper content? Cheers

Done!

Just hoping that Neil will tell us how he navigates to the pages that he creates the links to.
