A quick cruise stalk question.

Post by LittleOldSuzi »

I am going to add a cruise stalk to my daughters 2007 207 Sport. I have popped of the trim and the connector on the column has 8 contacts. Does this mean I can use a stalk with the memory function or did all the connectors have 8 pins and some were simply not connected on the vehicle? Thanks.

I remember trying to do this on a friends Peugeot. The problem was that (as the Peugeot stalk has a 'Limit' function not found on Citroens) we could not get it to work as there was also something needed to be added to the accelerator pedal.

Pop you VIN up if you want the correct stalk - you cannot just fit any type.

That's not correct at all! Both Citroen and Peugeot have cruise control and speed limiters. What version you can have (cruise or cruise and limiter) depends entirely on the model, the build year and the trim level.

I think only older (like pre-2004) cars had the cruise only function, in any case IIRC the switch with the limit function will work even with these, it's just that the limit side does nothing. Be aware, however, that some versions of the 1.6 HDi ECU are not programmed for cruise, and you can't make it work (which may be what HellRazor came up against).

I believe the 207 UK launch was circa 2006 and for those vehicles (with that option) there was only both cruise and limiter functions combined.

I know it was definitely available on the 1.6 HDi 92 (DV6ATED4) engine. But it's best if you let us know your VIN and then we can see what you have.

Citroen (on my 2004 C5 Mk1) have the speed limiter (or rather, overspeed warning) as one of the menus accessed through the button on the end of a normal stalk (and all this does is to warn you when you exceed the speed to set), while the Peugeot we were trying to fit the stalk to has that as one of the positions on the rotary switch on the cruise control stalk, and needed an additional/different switch of some sort on the accelerator, so as to actually restrict the speed to that set. The following two links show the Citroen stalk and the Peugeot stalk (in that order);

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Cruise-Contr ... SwJppdFMvg

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Peugeot-Citr ... SwdUtdSEqn

Despite what the sellers say, the stalks are specific to Citroen (stalk 1) and Peugeot (stalk 2).

Again, that's not correct.

The overspeed warning has nothing to do with it. Overspeed warning was just that a warning - as you rightly say. That is a separate system used on early models and not related at all to the Speed regulation systems, whose cruise and limiter functions are handled directly by the engine ECU.

As for the stalks, either of those were fitted to both marques - again depending on vehicle model, engine, build date, and trim level. They are not specific to Peugeot or Citroen marques. I've had both types and the second one you referred to was fitted to my MK II C5!

You cannot rely any any of that compatibility information found on ebay - it is more or less complete BS and one really should rely on proper information form the manufacturer.

Marc, PLEASE check your facts. The Mk1 Citroen C5 (for example) does NOT have a Limit capability in the cruise control, and it does not even recognise that within the Injection menu on a Lexia, while a Peugeot 407 DOES have the Limit function. If you fit a CC stalk with the Limit position to a Mk1 C5 it will 'see' one ON position, and two OFF positions, while the 407 will 'see' ON, OFF, and LIMIT.

I didn't say it does James - stop putting words in my mouth!

You keep going on about your C5 MKI - we are not even talking about this.

Which part did you not understand about what I said about depending on Model, build date, engine, trim? No, I don't rely on scrap yards for my information, nor (God forbid) ebay, or we would all be done for if that was the case.

To get back to the OP's car which is a 207 (and I wish you would limit your responses to, as you cause utter confusion going on about your C5) - this vehicle when fitted with this option was both Cruise and Speed Limiter.

@LittleOldSuzi now to get back to the issue we were originally discussing, there were 3 types of stalk fitted to the 207. It either had no stalk (your current specification), or three variations of speed regulation. These varied depending on the model, engine and build date. So we really need your VIN to see what specs you have.

If it's a 1.4 petrol, don't bother. It won't work.

Tried *everything* to get it to work on mine.

Yes. We did use the right stalk. No, it wasn't faulty.

Yes. It was a 2007 207 Sport

From the OPs profile I deduced a 1.6 HDi Mike - but as Richard said, there can be some 1.6 variants that won't have the capability in either case :)

LittleOldSuzi, may I suggest that you ask a friendly Peugeot mechanic (if you can find one) for his advice (or a Peugeot sale brochure from the time, which should tell you what options were available). From the experience Michel and I had I suspect there is more than just fitting a CC stalk (and letting the car 'know' about it). It may well be that this was never an option on this model (which could be confusing as the slot for a stalk is there, but this would be to reduce unnecessary production costs; having a drivers module made without the slot would be a waste of money as this would be an extra part to have to carry). However, it may well be that there was something extra required that Michel and I could not nail down. I think (but I do NOT know) that there is a switch required for the accelerator pedal (but whether this replaces or augments any switch there I cannot say). This is not as ridiculous as it sounds; the C5 Mk1, when it came out, used two switches on the brake pedal (one to turn ON the brakes lights, the other to disconnect the Cruise Control), and if you bought a C5 without Cruise Control it did not have the disconnect switch; you had to buy and fit it as well should you want to retro fit cruise control (the later Mk1 C5 had both switches combined into one case, so this problem did not happen if you wanted to add the Cruise Control later).

Re: A quick cruise stalk question.

It uses both.

Clutch switch (for manuals) / Brake switch and also with speed limiter uses a 'kickdown' zone to override the limiter function in an emergency, referred to as the Hard Spot or Point of resistance. It consists of a switch (18) in the accelerator pedal that is activated when the accelerator is kicked down hard against the hard plastic stop (17) on the floor under the pedal. Shown below as
Speed Limiter.PNG
So it is important that the right accelerator pedal and harness is fitted if not standard, as there are several types - again - depending on model.

Hi all, sorry I didn't mean to start a heated one.

The VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] and it is a 1.6 diesel running at 110.

Thanks all.
