These older cars are a great drive you drive them they don't drive you.

I cannot take back enough of the slatting off of Citroens many years ago till I had to buy a car rather fast , a xsara 1.4i mk1
That blew me away it was such a lovely car and that changed my whole view on Citroen.
My other little runner is a Suzuki swift 989cc that's been very reliable.
I'm almost there getting the zx yet again back on the road I've all parts needed and today's gonna be a busy day.

I used to spend hours upon hours trying to knock the bearings out of Imp king pins until the car parts bloke told me to cut them out with a hacksaw blade (carefully!). Saved hours of toil.
He then said not to grease them
But to oil them as they were being fitted. They lasted ages after that.

I changed my driveshafts over the weekend, The job went really well. My only issue was the passenger side arb drop link lower ball joint was just spinning and the hex was rounded off. I had replacement drop links so was able to get the mole grips in to hold it. The rest all behaved and came undone.
The job has resolved my knocking while steering was turned and vibration issue too. Drivers side inner uj was real stiff.
Thank you everyone for all your time, help and advice.

They weren't rollers but these things.

I can't remember all that stuff, just the kingpins, bearing shells and the caps. Sure there were no grease nipples involved.

Here's what was done.
Hub was damaged due to a wheel bolt stripping out a thread ??? Don't know how or why.
Sourced complete hub carrier with hub and new bearing pressed already in.
New lower wish bone ball joint upper tie road new drop links.
Sourced new pinch bolts for lower ball joints.
Sourced and purchased new drive shaft
Also purchased 2 new shaft hub nut.
Not to forget various spray cleaners and oils for budging old stuck cruddy bits.
Then it was a matter of removing broken drive shaft and old drop link lower ball joint and tie rods..... And so on.
Then putting it all back together using Haynes manual for all correct tightness of all but/bolt settings..

I even ran through all the new stuff fitted the other side to see if that needed changed and a mechanic pop his eye over it all and said it would be false economy to replace it considering it had only all done 800 miles and had no play or noises in any of the components.
Everything was checked for correct tightness and after that I checked all the brakes which after consideration I'm going to by the rear drums everything else is new even the hand brake cable, I seemed to have forgotten all the stuff I've done to this car till I checked it , pleased as punch.
.
My only problem now is .. Rear brake drum size. I'm getting 2 ... 228.6mm or 228.5mm
Measuring the old one not much good due to The wear, what do I go for.
Bendix system on rear as well.

Oh I also took out the front legs and cleaned them up along with the inner wings
Using the old underseal stuff ...
Oh and I replaced The rear shocks !!!!!
The old ones are still in the same position I pushed them down too which I did last Friday so they are total rubbish and the ride now is wonderful and I'm a twit for not doing it sooner and I apologized to the car for not changing them sooner , its happy as there a rather expensive German make !!

Size was not a real problem as there's 2 mm allowance so 228.5 or.6 fits.
My brakes are all new each corner.

Rattle noise is driving me nuts been using car today the rattle sounds like its coming one point across the front , then down on my side of the car right hand side.

I've taken the bonnet stay off that made no difference, made sure the cam cover is OK and it is.

Then I kicked the front wheel as I was a bit p...... Off.... And a rattle ... Brake pads can rattle so I could check them but feel it maybe something else.

What noise do worn top mounts make ?
The rattle isn't constant and only happens when driving not when stationary.
I've cable tied all plastic parts in the wheel arches and still can't find the source , car still OK to drive but the rattle is getting to me , I don't want to end up in another hedge .
Anyone had the same sound ?

Jack each wheel off the ground so that it takes the load off the spring then go round all the joints with a crow bar. Preferably both front wheels at the same time, that removes the load from the anti roll bar.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone
