Citroen C8 analogue speedo to digital

Post by manafas »

Hello
I wonder if anyone has had this experience or if anyone knows this please:
Can a digital speedo (the one with screen) and radio be retrofitted/installed into an SX?
Do both unit types use the same cabling to feed on information etc?
Many thanks

To be honest not really. The models with the 7" screen in the middle of the instrument cluster are fitted with an RT3 Head Unit (which includes Sat Nav / Telematics.). The standard option instrument panel has 3 round clusters of instruments.
C8 Display A.PNG
C8 Display B.PNG
This is the Multifunction Display supplied with the Telematics optionThis is the Normal Display type.
Issues you will have:

The electrical architecture may be different
You will need to buy a complete RT3 telematics system (of which the multifunction screen is part of) - but these are rare to find now.
You will need a new Instrument panel and suitable wiring harnesses, GPS Aerial and wiring.
It will need programming to the vehicle and configuring in the car's BSI.
Probably some other things that I can't quite remember now.

Probably a lot of expense if you can find the correct parts....

Marc thank you very much for your reply.

I was looking at the following on ebay:
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PEUGEOT-807- ... 3938604758

It seems like the radio is not the usual one but could potentially work on its own with the screen?
But it does sound like a lot of messing about.

Just had a look and that is the slightly later RNEG or 'MyWay' telematics system that was fitted to the later last of the run models. Same thing applies to be honest. You can't just plug it in and go - it has to have the correct wiring loom, dual aerials and GPS antenna, plus all the other bits.

What year is your C8 or a VIN would help.

My C8 is a 57 plate from January 2008.
Vin number is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
I was comparing the plugs between my speedometer model and the digital one and they look the same - but I understand the wiring itself might be different.

Ok, leave it with me Pedro - I'm dealing with half a dozen requests at the same time. I'll check your vehicle and see what I can make of the harnesses etc. and I'll get back as soon as I can.

Well your C8 being a late model is fully CAN CAN architecture. However I've checked the fascia wiring harness and it is completely different for the Telematics system (MyWay) that you referred to as I suspected. You have an RD4 system fitted (standard unit).

Additionally, the aerial base unit, aerial loom and aerial itself are all different, so a non-starter to be honest without replacing all that lot.

Hi Marc
Thank you so much for your help.
That’s me done with that idea then.
I just wanted additional features such being able to connect the phone and listening to other music sources and of course the sat NAV would have been good to have...
I’ll just stick with the original unit..
Best regards
Pedro

You can, at somewhat less cost and risk, upgrade just the radio head unit from RD4 to RD45 to get bluetooth phone and streaming functions. No-one here has done it yet on a C8, but you will find details of how the upgrade has been done on other models of Citroen and Peugeot viewforum.php?f=52.
