solenoid supply valve ABS

Post by NJA »

Hello. Have 2006 1.6 Hdi C4 which has been sitting in yard for a number of months. Started it yesterday and ABS warning comes on. Checked on a computer and it describes fault as "Solenoid Supply Valve". Does this mean I need to change ABS unit? Or could it be the wiring? If I need to change it does it have to be coded in?Thanks

Hi and welcome

First thing is get the battery fully charged - if it's been standing for that time then it own't be in tip top condition and these vehicles have a lot of electronics that are sensitive to poor voltages.

Once you've done that following the battery disconnection and reconnection procedure here:

viewtopic.php?f=51&t=61997

.... you should take it for a spin if you can as being static may have upset some components like the ABS wheel sensors - or there could be some rust contamination.

If you have the actual fault code, post it here with your VIN and I may be able to get a better explanation of the fault.

Thanks for reply. Have been driving the car and some journeys it goes fine. Other journeys the ABS warning comes on. The computer I used was delphi software and it just says solenoid supply valve. I think it must be either the ABS unit, or the wiring to the unit. Has anyone any experience of this?
Also, if ABS unit is to be replaced has anyone done that? Thanks

Thank you so much for this. I had traced two wires in a separate loom from the engine BSI. Each wire is connected to a 30amp large fuse. When ignition is on red wire has 12+volts and blue wire has 0.65 volts. Has anyone any knowledge of this?

The BSI is in the passenger Glovebox and that really only has the CAN data network from the ABS ECU and the brake lamps control.

The Engine Fusebox is called the PSF1:
The Fuse F7 is a 10 Amp and is for the anti-lock brake control unit and electric power steering ECU.
Clik images to zoom.

The Maxi fuses:
These are probably the ones you are referring to:
MF2: is 30 Amp and is the ABS hydraulic pump supply - *ESP hydraulic pump supply
MF3: is 30 Amp and is the ABS electrovalve supply - *ESP electrovalve supply
(* ignore the ESP part as you don't have that)

Thanks again. Yes that seems to be what the wires are. It seems a huge fuse if it only carries 0.65 volts. Thank you for taking the time.

Yes, but remember the electro valves in the hydraulic block are not operating all the time. It will only draw more current when the ABS is activated and braking / releasing the brakes in a road holding issue. :-D

I replaced the large relay that is attached to the inner wheel arch. I then had full voltage on the blue wire. Drove the car 50 metres and the light went out. Seems to be ok so it must have been the relay. Thanks again for sending diagramas knowing what the blue wire was made all the difference.
Now will start to DPF.
