You will need:
  • The latest firmware CD from your dealer (should only cost a few £s), as it is only a firmware update. The latest firmware version is 2.86B, but I know that V2.86 was part: 9691894880.
  • You'll also need a Torx 8 screwdriver bit.
  • A new Class 10 8Gb MicroSD Card.
It is defo an 8 Gb card in the DS5 - earlier models had smaller ones. but the system will partition them as needed.

Being a sort of "let's give it a go person" I put the cd into the unit today as I know it wasn't working before. That is, every cd I tried to play just got rejected.
So this time, and much to my horror, it actually went in, stayed in and won't eject. The message comes up on screen about checking something or other (can't remember the wording but it seems like it was the code), then it displayed that the engine should be left on and the media left in place as an upgrade was being prepared.
2 hours later the screen went blank again. After another hour the same message appeared. Seems like a loop. Still can't eject the cd.
Will have the new sd card tomorrow and hopefully will have time to the exchange of that over the weekend.
But at least the upgrade cd seems to be OK at this stage.

If that's a home created firmware CD, that is what I meant by one of the consequences of burning your own CDs - these are very fussy about the correct format, brand of CD and method of burning, speed and finalising used.

The dealer supplied OEM original CD is the one to use for this method if updating. The standard Firmware update should only take about 10 to 40 minutes.

It sounds like it is trying to update, but is having a problem writing files to the internal MicroSD - so fingers crossed the new card may, may be the solution.

That's my own thought too Marc.
Sounds like the system is ready and willing but the storage sd card isn't able to take the update.
I guess that when an update is being made there's a format of the card before the new data is applied and it's that formatting that's the problem.
My wife said the radio did come on VERY BRIEFLY yesterday before my upgrade attempt so I feel that some data is still on the card but that it's corrupted to some extent with data loops preventing completion of tasks.

Do you have any idea how long it should take a newbie to electronics to take the radio out and replace the card?
I have limited time windows for my normal daytime.

I can't tell you that as I can't see from your profile what car you have! :) Maybe a good time to update your profile and list your current drive - or pop your VIN up here. I'll be able to tell you which keys you need to remove the unit.

Doesn't seem overly awkward. Here's the removal process

First mistake - they didn't disconnect the battery before removing the unit - fail.

I didn't watch any more after that epic mistake :-D - but if you have a DS5 then it will be worth watching for the fascia trim removal if nothing else.

It's not the same unit as mine but the fascia removal was the part that I shuddered at.
After that's removed the unit, whichever one it is, should be relatively simple.
I still like the look of the android unit though, so is that at all worth considering further.

Nah, a good look around suggests it won't be possible

UPDATE

I bought the software CD from Citroen as suggested ( it cost me £12)
I used a 16gb micro SD (this the only one I could find in shops).
It took me about 2 hours as I did a few things wrong ( I'll explain later).

I'm pleased to say it has worked! (sort of)
The radio is working, the Bluetooth connects, the Sat nav comes on.

But here's the bad bits;
1. The Sat nav can't find a GPS location and it doesn't let me select an address to navigate to (it doesn't even show a country to select).
2. The load screen comes up with a Peugeot badge (not a big issue).

Have I done something wrong or is that expected since I have essentially reset everything? Do I just need another CD to update the Sat nav?

This is where I went wrong and it may have affected something;
1. After I put everything back together I turned on the ignition and put the CD in, however the car wouldn't start (it was just turning over) and the installation was already taking place. I had to interrupt the installation and take everything apart again and check all the wires.

2. Once I had the car running again I let the installation run. After it had complete it said to restart the system so I clicked 'ok' . The system restarted and started the installation process all over again . I let it run again just in case, then clicked 'ok' to reset the system again. Then again it started to install again! I stopped it this time by ejecting the CD.

3. I used a 16gb SD card not an 8 like suggested (could be a problem)

4. When I took the unit apart the tamper seals were already broken so I guess someone has already tried to repair the unit (it already had an 8gb SanDisk SD card in, I was expecting a Citroen branded one or something).

On some systems (especially when updating form USB) it does ask you to remove the media prior to restarting - obviously with the CD it hasn't so has repeated the operation. Go through and check your settings and make sure everything including the speed units and temp are as you want them, loudness on / off / Aux sources enables and how you want the map displayed etc.

Do you have access to a Lexia Diagnostic kit with Diagbox? The Marque can be set using the configuration of the system - I can help with that if you have the kit.

Hi Marc,

Yeah I've tried all the functions and everything works as it should but when I go onto Sat nav it just shows a green screen as if it's lost signal or I'm sat in a giant field. When I go to navigate to an address and click on 'country' no countries are displayed. When I click on current location it says it can't be found.

I'm wondering if a USB satnav update would fix it?

I can't see any harm doing a maps update. I got mine from the forum I got the firmware. Works a treat.
I guess that the satnav data is also stored on the sd card so it's more than likely that you need to install it again.
Haven't had the sd card delivered for the firmware installation yet and it's pee'd down all weekend so not really what I wanted.
Pleased to see that at least the basics of the head unit are functioning though with you as it points to the sd card being corrupted in some way as suspected.
