2.0 HDI 66kw 2002 p0220 TPS circuit B

Post by roberts »

Hello to all french lovers! :)
Recently my car board has been lit up a check engine light...Since a light came up, the car accelerates very slowly above half range press on gas pedal.

Checked the code with OBDII Reader and diagnostics showed code P0220 Throttle position sensor circuit B.

I opened the accelerator pedal position sensor in engine compartment and it is 1920AK model part number.

The car i am driving is Citroen Xsara Picasso 2.0 HDI Year 2002 66KW...
CODE ON CHASIS for service programs is 20814...and it is in Mint condition exept for that fault...

TPS is one of inductive types and obd reader does not register any change on TPS pedal press!?

I have checked yesterday voltages on 4wire TPS harnes plug which reads YellowGreen -12V, green -12V, redish -8V and fourth -12V...That is very strange to my knowledge?

Today is different situation I've just checked TPS voltage and yellogreen is 0v connected to earth, green gives 5v, redish one gives 0.5 to 3.7v dependant on pedal press and the fourth one is 9.5v...cleared codes 0202 and now 0102...still no input on throttle from cheap obd2 diagnostic from china...but dashboard does not reproduce check engine light...

Now, is this the classic clinnical case for 2 ground wires MAF Mod? :)

Hi, and :welc: to the forum. While I will not be able to help you directly, if you were to post up the VIN (which will be obscured from all but a Moderator) a Moderator with the right access can look up your vehicle on the Citroen systems and let you know what she had when she rolled out of the factory. I would also suggest you try to get a proper Lexia kit (even if it is a clone) onto her, as most generic readers struggle to read French vehicles.

You missed a character out of the VIN - I've corrected it now. :-D

XSARA PICASSO FAMILY SALOON 2.0 HDi 90 Manual gearbox 5

You could have one of the three setups for this year:
Pic1.PNG
Pic 2.PNG
Pic 3.PNG
ELECTRIC PEDAL WITH CONTROL INCORPORATED IN PEDALMECHANICAL ACCELERATOR PEDALPEDAL CONTROLLING THE REMOTE ELECTRIC SENSOR
Pic 4.PNG
Part 1920X1 is for item 22, but it also says add part: 1608878580. So I'm not sure whether the potentiometer is separate to the mechanism.....

There's another post here - (his is a 1.8 Petrol Xsara Picasso) and he found the wiring to have 4 not 3 wires.

The lads xsara picasso is the 1.8 dohc petrol engine, with the last parts picture part number 22 type throttle pedal position sensor, the 4 wire type.

I think i will strip the unit down as far as possible to check to see if it has 2 half moon magnetic segments, probably affecting a hall effect array?

weather permitting ( it rains a lot here ) we will solder the wires back in the loom by the units connection plug along with break out wires so can connect scope for a look see. It would make sense that one wire is earth, one wore is 12v power, and the other 2 wires being outputs to the ecu?? similar to the pug 306 hdi diesel......

the picasso has a sagem ecu....

Mine is with two half moons magnets, I have no time right now to check for resistance change with multimeter to see if it reacts good now when there are proper voltages. First time i checked for resistance change there was no response when voltages were messed up.
But maybe that strange 4wire TPS does not work that way to be a candidate to check for resistance change...we will see tomorow...

Ok, so this is the wiring diagram for your Diesel DW10TD Injection System.

Item 1261 on the lower right is the TPS. There are 4 wires:
1393: inlet air pressure signal (Pink Wire)
1427: pre-catalyst upstream exhaust temperature sensor earth A (Beige Wire)
1391: MIL-REQUEST signal (Green Wire)
1392: EOBD warning info (Green / Yellow Wire)

All the above go directly to the Injection ECU via the 10 PR Harness

As for the MAF, this is item 1310 on the diagram (bottom middle).
1408: / volts turbocharging solenoid valve / supply (Beige Wire)
CM24C: Battery + to Engine Fuse Box (Green Wire)
1335: Intake air electric motor command (-) (Green / Yellow Wire)
1448: compressor 2 air temperature signal (Pink Wire)
1335A: Intake air electric motor command (-) (Yellow / Green Wire)

Hey, thanks a lot! I think that is the first post on internet with detailed info for this loom... =D>

Now we have to ask ourselves, will cutting and rerouting MAFes wires 1335 and 1335A to earth mess something up? Or should i search for MAFs ground point MC11 somewhere in the engine to check if it is poorly crimped

Here are the earth locations for you for a Left Hand Drive - :-D As it's an SVG file, it's a little big, but being a vector graphic it will scale perfectly.

No need, we already have the information here on our wiki:

https://frenchcarforum.co.uk/wiki/Elect ... ring_Codes

Just click on the introduction link at the top of the list and follow it down, that will list the colour codes. The other sections have most of the codes for the wiring diagrams on PSA vehicles.
