This is more of an idea than something i am actually doing, just trying to work out if it is possible.

I am pretty sure it can be done, but has anyone tried it before and would anyone recommend trying it
Planning for the future and trying to save money on body shop bills if we buy it from my lad and the good lady drives it
** EDIT it has the MyWay/RNEG system fitted **

Several things to consider if you are referring to
OEM kit Colin.
There are 2 types - rear only or front and rear and with Gap Measurement. Each requires a different ECU.
You’ll need 4, 8 or 10 ultrasonic sensors, the loom front and rear, BSI configuration and not forgetting the drilling of the bumper and rear skirts, etc. There is also the gap measurement button and wiring for the dash.

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
I’d have to check the intended vehicle for fitment as to whether the correct wiring harnesses are in place or not. Unlike older models they are now very much fitted depending on options so are not one size fits all.
There are separate engine, supplementary, front, intermediate and rear looms Colin. Just post back if you need to know.

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
I know you have basically decided not to do this, however, I fitted OEM front sensors to my 2011 and basically all the main wiring it there so I only had to buy the actual front harness (the one that goes along the bumper) so I would imagine the same would be for the back. However, you will need the rear ECU, I bought mine from a scrappy for less that £30, I dare say the rear harness, as it is a common 'extra' sold at time of original purchase could be sourced the same way.
Ebay/Amazon (any any other online supplier) can supply the sensors & the mounting plates for the rear bumper, or just try to find the lower skirt in the scrappy, they are all black!!...unless you they are already there and just not pushed through.
Once fitted, you will have to 'tell' the car they are there, radio & center screen/Display? and the rear ECU will need to be triggered..........fairly simple with a Diagbox/Lexia.
Failing that there you can fit a stand alone cheapy parking sensor kit connected to your reversing lights, there are two types out there, Holes & No holes separate display no display, I have fitted both types to various cars, I actually fitted the type that does not require holes to a C4 coupe as I did not want to damage the paintwork and it worked well!
ECU's part number is VERY important and is printed on a label on the outside of the unit and sits in a rack above the left hand rear wheel.
Good luck

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
That's what I fitted to my X7 tourer. I got the kit for less than £10 off ebay and it comes with the hole cutter for the sensors. It was quick to fit and it's been working for around three years. Activated by the reverse light.

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
Thanks for the advice, it may well be worth taking a more in depth look at what is required, if we were to buy the car i would prefer an OEM approach but just been outside and checked and holes are blanked off on the rear but nothing on the front of the car, do they need drilling or are there other options.

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
Right, I used a 2010 Saloon with front and rear obstacle detection with the same Engine as the one your Son has . Although the main engine, Fascia Panel and intermediate interior harnesses are different, the front and rear bumper harnesses are the same. There are different part numbers for the front and rear physical bumpers, so can't tell what is different.
Incidentally is this X7 a Left Hand Drive? Reason I ask is that it is showing LHD interior against the other saloon I am comparing it with...

Re: Retro fitting parking sensors and kit C5 X7
Yes, just the same... very odd seeing as the comparison is the same engine same year. Never mind. So some serious drilling will be required, configuration etc. Also the dash plug module will be different for the gap measurement and we know the harnesses have different part numbers. So not sure about that - I can't remember if Stu did anything about the gap measurement.
