Xantia II Leakage

Post by Citro83 »

Good afternoon to everyone,

I decided to check my car today and I randomly observed the following issue. I saw the leakage of the video.

Here is the link of the video

What is this liquid? Is this a serious problem? What is the name of that spare?

Thanks in advance!!

That would seem to be a serious issue indeed. I'm not familiar with this engine so can't help on the part. You'll have to try and find out what the fluid is. I suspect water from the cooling system, but it could also be petrol perhaps. Easy to figure out by smell. Good luck!

Agreed - you should be able to tell from the spilled liquid: choice of water/coolant, petrol, or LHM.
Should be straightforward to identify.
Looks like a major leak, so car should definitely not be driven.
:!: If petrol, a risk of a serious fire.

Is that not the fuel pressure regulator? I'd suggest that's petrol Pouring out of it! Looks like the supply and return lines, I am not familiar with the engine, only going on its predecessor in the gti and mi16, you should be able to tell from the smell, looks far too clear for lhm or coolant.

If petrol surely the smell would give it away immediately?

A match would confirm

Otherwise a small sample smell/taste tested?

Unfortunately, the liquid is petrol. Also, the two pipes are the fuel supply & return lines. I changed the clips from the pipes and the leakage reduced. In fact, I though that the problem was vanished when I started my car. But, some hours later I made the same inspection and observed a tiny leak again. Something like 1 drop every 5 seconds. I have scheduled an appointment with my car mechanic for tomorrow.

Glad you got that leak identified - it could have been the cause of a serious incident.
Hopefully some replacement pipework will be a permanent cure.

Had that happen on my old Xantia 2.0i petrol - petrol squirting from the hose at the end of the fuel rail. Luckily I spotted it under the bonnet before it became a fire!

Funny enough? The worse ones are Brake fluid! more cars have caught fire from that leaking than most other things also concentrated anti freeze is another
Petrol esp when hot evaporates quickly it's a spark that is the bug bear with it but heat sets the others off

LHM has the genuinely nice property of non combustion. I remember seeing a video where a fire officer (using a beaker at the end of a long pole) pouring brake fluid onto a (demonstration) engine bay fire. The fire got more vigorous. Then the same test was done, but using LHM. The fire went out.
