Citroen C5 MK3 1.6 THP 2012 Window Regulator Repair

Post by Brian C5 »

Hello

Can anyone help me with some advice on repairing a drivers window regualtor. Window won't go back up even though the electric motor turns. I suspect one of the cables has broken on the regulator.
I need to remove door card and any advice i.e.photographs etc on how to remove door handle etc without damage would be a great help.
I intend to replace cable on the regulator rather than replace the whole regulator a kit on ebay is about 10 pounds.

Any tips/pointers/advice would be most grateful.

Thanks
Brian

I recently got a brand new aftermarket one for under £40 from ebay. Been in for a few weeks so far & seems to be working fine, think it has a 2 year guarantee as well.
I've never used one of these regulator repair kits before but I imagine it would be a very fiddly job & probably not worth the hassle to save 20 odd quid.

I got one of the basic wire 'n' plastic repair kits to repair the spare old winder mech that I removed. It actually wasn't that difficult to fit - you just need to use a bit common sense and a few Mole grips / clamps / cable ties to hold the wires and springs in place whilst you rethread it all.
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

I have used the cable repsir kits before on two Lagunas I owned and have great success with them. As long as you grease the cable before refitting they outlasted the original ones.

Hello Mark /Bobins

I have replaced the three cables on the window regulator following the very detailed post done by Bobins (a great help) however I still have a problem.

The window goes down ok but when it goes fully up it automatically goes back down again about half way and then stops. I have tried to re-initilize the window by holding the button fully down between 5 to 10 seconds and the same with the fully up position (as per post) but the problems still persists!

I have replaced window regulators before on Renault Lagunas with no problems but this has got me stumped.

Any help/advice would be most greatful.

Thanks

Not sure about the re-initialisation procedure, but - on the driver's window - there could be an anti-pinch function (it's a motor-current-sensing device) operating, which when it detects stiffness, stops and backs off the upward glass movement.

Try giving the felt guide channels a good dosing with WD40, and making sure the window side edges are clean. Worth a try.

Make sure you follow this procedure exactly for reinitialising the window motors and the anti pinch system:

Window motor with safety auto-reverse:
  1. Close the front door (Otherwise it is not possible to close the front window)
  2. Raise the front window step by step until it is fully closed
  3. It is recommended to keep pressing for one second after the front window has stopped; Using the up command
  4. Lower the front window until it is fully open (In automatic Mode)
  5. Reclose the front window (In automatic Mode)
The last bits are important.

This reinitialises the motor itself as well as anti pinch.

Hello Marc
Thanks for your advice.

1 and 2 worked ok but at number 3 where you keep pressing for one second after the front window has stopped using the up command, the window automatically goes down to the half way position again!

Any further help would be appreciated

Ok, so my next suggestion is to reinitialise all the ECUs which will include the window ECU. After the process, you can reinitialise all the windows again.

Follow this exactly:

The only thing i can say is when i did mine all i did was to open the window fully and keep the button held for 10 secs. then close the window and hold the button for 10 secs.
It worked perfectly after that.
Hope this helps

Thanks for the help but fortunately I tried this and it did not work.
I will try the resetting of the BSI as Marc suggested although I am a bit wary of doing this in case I cause more problems. Never done this before.

The only other thing I csn think of is maybe there is too much resistance with the new cables even though I greased them. They were a tight fit.
