Xsara 15 inch wheels on a c3

Post by leewesley20371 »

Was wondering if the wheels off my xsara would be ok to put on my OH's C3, the xsara wheels are 15 inch. Tia.

They will physically fit, inasmuch that they have the correct centre bore diameter and stud hole pattern. But whether the offset is acceptably close I don't know. Easiest thing to do is probably stick them on the car and have a look.

It is important to get the right offsets too - not just the wheel size and diameter.

If you pop up the VIN for the C3 and for your Xsara I can give you the correct settings for each.

So the C3 is a 1.4 Petrol and your Xsara is a 110 HDi.

The wheels for the Xsara have the following: 6" Wide, 15" Wheel Diameter, with a positive offset of 18 mm
6,00 J15 H2 4-18

The wheels for the C3 Petrol have the following: 5.5" Wide, 14" Wheel Diameter, with a positive offset of 24 mm
5,50 J14 H2 4-24

So they are not the same. I would suggest you seek some expert advice as it is important the the offsets are not too far from the original values.

I can't imagine that any expert will give such advice for free given the liability potential, and conversely you can be pretty sure that anyone who does give advice for free in the circumstances isn't an expert. Presumably the expert needed is a vehicle dynamics engineer, who I doubt you'll find in your local Cit garage.

Right, been to Citroen and they advised me to go somewhere like kwik fit so had a look online and found a wheel offset calculator. Is this an easier way to work it out or would it be better to swap them over and see how it goes ?

They might affect the handling in ways you wouldn't like. Kwik fit workers know very little in my experience

I wouldn't trust Kwik**it to pump-up a beachball BUT I can't imagine 6mm making any real difference.

as long as your wheel bolts are suitable - citroen alloys often use a flat bolt face, If the wheels are still on your xsara not an issue, but if not check first, with the 1/2" difference in width and the lower offset you probably wont notice a great deal of difference, the c3 exclusives and sporty models come with 16s as the c2 sporty ones do, i ran my old xantia on 17s with an offset of 25 as apposed to the std steelies on 15, they did tuck in a little but never suffered any rub or ill affects, likewise when i had the Bx16v on the road in the early 00's i ran that on 17s (std on 14s) with no issues for a while then dropped back to 15's after i sold the 17s.
if you have a google you should be able to find a few C3s running the C4 vts Resolfen alloys in 17" , look quite good!!!!

At 6mm difference in offset I would say stick them on and see how they are. I would think they would be ok. Try driving slow going from lock to lock. If they do rub a set of 5 mm spacers may be required but then you would need extended bolts and the wheel may not get properly centered on the hub, which is not a great idea. I doubt if you would get hubcentric spacers at 5mm. And if they fit then inform your insurance as non standard wheels for the car can effect your premium, and not telling them could render your insurance invalid.

Yes, it is one area I have learned a lot of. I usually change the wheels on most vehicles I own, so I check up these things. Im quite fussy about tyres too. If necessary, I mean skint, I will buy budget tyres but that is very rare. I usually buy Falken, Vredestien, or uniroyal tyres. I also alyays fit them in pairs across an axle. I dislike different tyres on the same axle, I think that can unsettle the car. I also always change them at 2mm not right down to the markers which is 1.6mm. That 0.4mm maybe doesnt seem like a lot, but makes a big difference in the wet.

Hmmm, seems we're I've like minds on this but your preferred brands is helpful because my Xantia came on Chinese doughnuts & much as I'd like Michelins that ain't going to happen! The C15 is even more of a conundrum; I read somewhere that they don't like cheap tyres BUT, it is what it is - so some sort of reason has to prevail when the time comes to replace the too good to turn down offer of 2 pairs when I still couldn't be sure I'd cured its voracious appetite for front tyres.
