2000 Dispatch: Battery light flickering very dim, terminals at 14.3V, alternator replaced 2 weeks ago.

Just done a service - including a new fan belt.

Started it up and noticed the battery light is on very dim. While driving it flickers between dim and off, notably when decelerating it goes off entirely

I tried disconnecting the battery with the engine running, light still on dim.

It's definitely charging - the voltage at the terminals is 14.3V

Edit: Notably I had a dead alternator on it 2 weeks ago, which I replaced with a second hand one which worked fine till now.

Do you notice any variation in the brightness of the panel or interior lights? If not could be an alternator fault or a poor electrical connection somewhere. Personally if its still charging OK I wouldn't worry about it, just check the battery voltage periodically. Check the thin wire connection on the alternator.

Google ac ripple test. You have too much ac current in system. Diode failure probably.

I hope not, I've just replaced the alternator 2 weeks ago - admittedly with a second hand one, but still.

Does this point to an issue somewhere in my electrical system?

Don't run the engine with the battery disconnected. Risk of damage to both alternator and other electronic items, due to alternator not being able to read a battery voltage.

Hmm I do have a dicky positive terminal connection. Maybe that's destroying alternators?
