Mk1 Xantia window relay
The drivers side (right) window will go down ok but the relay inside the door just clicks when trying to go up, I have to pull the glass at the same time operating the switch to get it to come up, is it the relay thats playing up something in the mechanism ?

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
I don't think that there is a relay in the door. Have you seen one? Maybe you are hearing the gears click as the motor struggles with a jammed window.

That seems unusual, as the window switches are 3-position switches, so you cant control the motor with just a single relay.
Does your car have a one-touch drivers window? Can you post a picture of the relay box?

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
If one-touch operation, there is a likely a current-limiting (and maybe auto-backoff/anti-pinch) facility, so if the window movement is stiff, you'll just hear a click/clonk and no movement. Give the felt channels a good squirt of WD40 or silicone spray, and grip the glass (one hand each side, for safety) to encourage it up.

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
Here are the front window wiring diagrams that should be applicable to your mk1 Xantia (with one touch drivers window):

I think however that your problem is more likely to be mechanical than electrical. The anti-pinch function will stop the window from rising if it is having to apply too much force.

Ok Thanks, I will get some silicon spray and see if that helps

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
I had this problem with my previous C5 (and Mum did with her Volvo), and a proper (3 in 1) silicone lubricate sorted the problem out for a year or so, when it then needed another application.

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
1st time I opened the f. pssenger window on my Xantia & tried to close it, it went up about 4" & dropped back, several times. Eventually gave up & thought I'd wait 'til I got back to the house (this was collecting it from the vendor). Some time later, perhaps stuck in traffic, I idly hit the switch & the window closed; not dared open it since!
Oh, & it doesn't matter which switch I used.
Any ideas?
Sorry to have butted in.

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
That sounds like the anti pinch control kicking in. If the system 'thinks' there is something in the way (such as a child's head) it will (because of the extra resistance) back away. This can (and almost certainly is, in your case) be caused by dirt built up on the guides restricting the movement of the window. Silicone spray (I have used 3 in 1 silicone lubricant spray) in the guides can help overcome this for a while (in my experience it worked for a year before I needed to apply it again).

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
I am not aware that a mk1 Xantia was ever fitted with one-touch or anti-pinch on the passengers window. Maybe someone has upgraded it?
I think that someone sent you the spec sheet for your car which should tell you.

Re: Mk1 Xantia window relay
Issue confirmed as relating to driver's side, one-touch, so I guess anti-pinch almost certainly fitted, Mike.

I was responding to James who was I think responding to Van who was reporting an issue with the passenger side window.
