Alarm unavailable

Post by Jlm19900 »

Hi, my relay van says on the dash alarm unavailable when I start it up, just wondered if anyone would know why this is? I tried testing it by locking the van with key fob and then opening with just the key, all the indicators flash but no sound. I haven’t had the van too long and it could of been there since I bought it I just didn’t notice. Any ideas anyone? Cheers.

Either the siren has been disabled or disconnected physically or via configuration - the rapid indicator flashing indicates a triggering of the alarm, but you're just not getting the siren going off. Lock with fob - unlock with fob fine, but lock with fob and unlock with key - triggers siren normally and flashing of indicators which is as it should be - so somebody may have nobbled it.

If you want to check the connections, I'll need your VIN posted here (will be masked automatically).

Ok, so after the ignition is switched on, in the case of an incorrect alarm system diagnostic test, the instrument panel receives a message containing the fault detected from the built-in systems interface.

The coded engine immobiliser warning lamp comes on, - on the comfort version instrument panel, a message is displayed on the dot matrix screen ("alarm not available" in the case of a failure of the alarm system, " vehicle intrusion detected" in the case of triggering of the alarm system).

So I suspect that in the case of the system on this Relay, there is a defective component, as the Alarm module can't be configured using the diagnostic tools.

Components of the System:

Location of the Siren:

So hard to say whether the Siren is faulty or the ECU itself

Thanks Marc, I will try and test the siren first. Do you have any of these diagrams for the radio antenna, just because my signal is very poor and only pick up radio stations in the city centre

Here's the aerial on your Relay. note that you only have items (1), (2), (5), (11), (13), (14) & (20)

(20) is the Aerial amplifier.

To get to the aerial the sun visor needs to come off and part of the headlining!

Always delighted to find the alarm on any car I've got doesn't work. Another useless complication AND downright antisocial. They should be banned! Rejoice!

Oh the irony, in the middle of revelling in being the Luddite of the group - my internet connection failed (probably because it's snowing!)

Have absolutely no intention of joining the "modern age" which has very little to commend it all (unless you are a tecno-geek, of course) but it has pushed upon us endless bits of frippary which are very expensive, do nothing useful & are alarmingly unreliable. Many years ago I learned that if I was seduced by something pretty, fun or even remotely useful, the answer to "do I need it?" was a resounding NO! Of course it cannot be said I apply the same logic to buying cars

Does that include women in general and the wife in particular?

My C5 has one, it screams at me occasionally (If we're still talking about alarms.)
