The centering tool is only required to re-mate the box and engine - the first time you press the clutch the disc will self centre anyway, and if it's not lined up, you won't be able to get the box back on. If you buy a Valeo clutch, they usually come with a plastic dowel to centre the clutch. CitroNut never used to use one, he just centred the plate by eye with the clutch loosely nipped up. 50k would be about the life expected from a re-manufactured clutch, especially if it was a Transmech one....
