GSF always seem expensive to me.
Found and ordered a genuine premium Cit/Pug on ebay for £15 :D

That's quite a lot.
When I last replaced mine, two years ago, it was £18.
Would have come from Andrew Page through my now gone local car parts place.

I made some assumptions but looks like £20 for yours Mike.

Yes, I have to agree they are expensive - I can't be doing with companies that artificially inflate their prices 200-300%! and then make out they're giving you a bargain with whopping 50% off :rofl2: Utterly pathetic, but that's their business model and that's the way they hook people in. I don't buy from them on principle.

I can now confirm both drain holes on all five doors are all clear. I even parked both ways on a slope to ensure any collected water would flow out the holes being checked.
And again, the water traps left in the front footwells overnight remain dry - and we had rain again last night.

Sorry, that didn't mean it was the problem Colin, just confirming I braved pulling the seals to check they weren't holding water.

All that's left is to replace the cabin filter (on order), rod the scuttle drains and see if closing the top heater vents have any effect otherwise I'm stumped why, under the right conditions, the front screen gets completely fogged up (and will freeze if cold enough) when no other glass is affected.

Mike, I used strimmer cord to rod the sunroof on the 406, but I'm sure you know that, my Bx frosts the windscreen on the inside, it's due to the windscreen seal, doesn't leak but it does let cold moist air in.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

There's been an interesting development with my car last night that may or may not be relevant to this fogging issue but it's too much a coincidence I think.
The climate control has stopped blowing out the floor vents last night. It blows when commanded, just not at the floor.

What's more now when the blower is on, regardless of vent settings it's blowing at the windscreen. (The mid/side vents were closed)
While the refusal to blow out the floor vents is a new development that happened mid-journey last night, I'm not sure if it's always blown out the screen at the same time or only when commanded so the obvious question is could this 'failed open' screen vent be the cause of internal misting?

I'm not sure I want to ask how to fix it... am quietly hoping it's just an ECU gotten it's knickers in a twist or a blown fuse, or maybe a corroded connector.

Have you checked that the A/C condensate drain is not blocked?

Short answer - no, Mike. I'm guessing that involves crawling under the car - something I'm not likely to ever do again, sadly.
Having said that, in the summer when I had to use the A/C, I would see the tell-tale riverlet running from under the car when parked.

Mike, initial thoughts suggest the air distribution motors. Either the motors are faulty (unlikely) or the plastic gears have worn preventing the opening or closing of the distribution flaps.

This would be likely if the air seems to be stuck flowing from the same position.

I would open all the dash vents fully for testing, and put the blower control on a high speed, then sequentially direct the air on both sides (if you have dual climate control) to the top, centre and then floor, waiting a little while in between to see if the motors whirr into action and that the air does change distribution.

If poss., and you have dual climate, check left and right vents at each position change to see if you can isolate if it is the left or right hand motor (s) which are faulty.

It is a known issue where these plastic gearings can become worn or snap. There are fixing kits to replace these gears, but a fiddle of a job to get them out to do the repair.

Hopefully the above will help to determine if this is the likely suspect or not. So it is possible that it is either 4 or 2 in the table below:
Mike T Flaps Right.PNG
Mike T Flaps Left.PNG
Number 4 on the Right Hand Side is Air Distribution
6 is the Air Mixer Motor.
Number 2 on the Left Hand Side is Air Distribution
Number 3 is the Air Mixer Motor

Venting to the floor has been resumed (either I was hallucinating or it was a glitch last night) though it's still blowing at the screen no matter what the manual direction setting is set to.

Apart from the constant flow to the screen, the venting flaps do change according to settings (but the screen vents are never closed). Perhaps that's why I'm constantly having to degrease the screen? As well as my manual tests, I also used Lexia actuator tests and monitored live parameters and everything is as expected.

I'll have another look to see if there is anything else with this extra info Mike. Can you also confirm whether the fan speed is fast too? Or does the air still direct to the screen regardless of speed? I wanted to rule out demist function that usually belts it out at the screen level with A/C activated.

I have your VIN now, so I'm aware it is Dual Zone Climate Control version fitted. If the motors are indeed moving the air distribution on both sides at the Top, Middle or Bottom (sounds like a certain gameshow) then I'm wondering if it could still be that a few teeth are missing off the gear so that it's not fully closing the flap to the top.

You could try another test to see:

Change the right hand side to have the air coming out at the floor, and change the left hand side to have the air at the top only. Check if both correspond, then reverse the settings for the right and left side. This would show if it just one motor that is playing up if the other stops the air flow to the top.

Fan speed regulation is good Marc, it blows out the top at least as strong as it does anywhere else - hit the defrost button and it positively howls as well!

I prefer using manual settings and try to keep both sides synchronised as once de-synchronised requires an overly complex visit to the personalisation setting to get back which I find very annoying! But for the sake of tests, will do as you suggest of course.

Would be good to know constant top venting is not actually a feature of this car. Perhaps someone else with a facelift could confirm they cannot feel any air flow from the middle of the screen vents when set to blow out the floor and/or side vents?

The X7 has a soft air diffusion system where the air is 'blanketted' over the top of the dash to eliminate undesirable air currents - but that was not available on earlier models Mike and no mention of the constant air flow from the top (except when in automatic climate mode).

Re the personalised settings, that's another saving grace of the X7 - 2 memorisation programmes that memorise mirror positions and angles, seat positions and angles and all climate control settings. That's really useful when the car has been to the garage and saves resetting everything!
