C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
Right this car is kicking me at every turn, just gone out to put it at the back of the drive and now the heater will not work, lights up and even the aircon kicks in but not a single turn of the blower, can set it from zero to max and alter the temp but blower refuses to start.

Re: C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
There have been several posts concerning this and one of the simplest fixes was to remove the blower module and re-fit it.
Another to bridge the pins in the connector to kick the blower back into life.

Re: C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
Something worth getting (especially as the car gets older) is some proper Servisol contact cleaner. This helps to get contacts cleaned up, switches working properly again, and can even allow some motors to spin again.

This is the most recent thread about the heater resistor (actually an electronic control unit).

Incidentally mine is still working after the most recent reset.

Re: C5 2008 (X7 ?) Turbo Fault
Tried to sort out the blower issue, think i have found it but didn't want to push my luck as it did move a little bit left and right but looking at previous posts it needs to be rotated to the right.
Hopefully this picture is the correct part.

Re: C5 2008 (X7 ?) Turbo Fault
That's it. Don't know why you think it needs to be rotated to the right to unscrew as I have repeatedly said it unscrews anti-clockwise about a quarter turn. It will be very difficult to get moving if it hasn't been out since the car was built .
Once it's out though it won't take very long to try the bypass trick and then see if that has (temporarily) fixed things.

Don't know the pin numbers but there are two thin wires and two thick wires. It's the thick wires in the plug you have to join together.

Re: C5 2008 (X7 ?) Turbo Fault
Also perhaps worth unplugging the plugging back in to see if that will kick the blower off again - corrosion on the pins.

Re: C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
As for the blower module, if the jumper trick (is it necessary to remove it first?) shows it needs internal resoldering, I should be able to effect that fix.

Re: C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
Ok just a quick couple of questions.
Do i bridge the wires in the plug or the unit itself ?
Can i put 12 v direct to the unit with it in situ ?
Can i use the plug slot to rotate the unit or will it break ?
And Thanks Marc for splitting the threads will make it easier for the new owner

Re: C5 X7 2008 Blower Control Module
You have to take the plug off the control unit in order to be able to bridge the thick wires so, theoretically, you don't have to take the control unit out. HOWEVER, in practice the plug is so damn difficult to get off it's easier to do it with the control unit in your hand.
I doubt the control unit will need soldering as I have closely inspected my unit and cannot see any defective soldered joints. The prevailing opinion is that the blower motor is sticking slightly and putting an extra load which the control unit detects and then deactivates. Bridging the wires forces the motor to spin at maximum speed and then the motor will work the normal way using the control unit.
I have wondered whether the control is faulty and has become more fussy about the amount of current it will allow through and that's why fitting a new one effects a cure. But as my no-cost option will make it work for a while and is repeatable I'll continue that way. At least until I get fed up with it.
