C3 2011 sat nav issue

Post by tempsc »

Hi.

My wife's C3 has suddenly developed an issue and I wonder if anyone can help us please?

The sat nav has worked fine for years (- albeit with the daft Citroen policy on UK postcodes!)

Anyhow, the sat nav has suddenly stopped working and a msg on the screen requests that the 'media/card is inserted'. Of course, the sd card is inserted. We have tried removing and reinserting but still the message persists.

Any ideas for sorting this? My wife is a district nurse and heavily relies on using the sat nav to get to her patients homes and the problem is causing certain amounts of stress.

Thanks for any help.

:)

Hi and Welcome.

Can you pop up your VIN here please (it is automatically masked) so I can determine your system and the other essentials, then I can see what's what.

I've also moved this post to the Telematics Section.

Hello Marc.

Thanks for the reply and also for moving my post to the telematics section.

So, the VIN is:

VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] (the 0 may be a O?)

Thanks.

Ok, so you have the MyWay (RNEG) system.

That has an SD card on which to store the mapping data. It is quite possible that the SD card has become corrupt, as they will ultimately wear out as the data is read and written to the data blocks.

What you need to do is to purchase a new 16 Gb SD card and format it as FAT32 and then we have to transfer the mapping data over. However, depending upon the version of your MyWay system firmware (not the mapping data), copying the data over will not work without a modification.

What I need to know is what firmware your system is running and also what version are the maps you are using?

If you can provide this info, I may be able to assist you further to accomplish this.

Thanks Marc.

Can you advise how I can get the firmware and version info you require? I assume I'll find it in some sub menu somewhere on the unit itself?

Thanks

Ok, so you need to press the SETUP button, then on the screen, scroll down until you find the SYSTEM menu and press to enter this. From here, go down until you see SOFTWARE VERSION.

Select this option and it should scroll with both the system version, and also the mapping information. Write it all down and come back to me and I’ll have a look at it for you.

Hi Marc.

Sorry for the delay.

So, I have attempted to get the information but once I got to 'system information', this opened a new window with 3 options;

Factory reset
Software version
Automatic scrolling

When I toggled between the three, I could only 'land' on the Factory reset and Automatic scrolling options. It kept skipping over the software version option and so I couldn't enter into that menu option.

So, the short answer to a long story is that I couldn't get the info you requested.

Any ideas?

Thanks.
Paul.

Hi Paul right, so that could be related to the problem if it cannot read the SD card where the Mapping version would be.

For the moment I would suggest that your firmware is updated and then we can focus on the Navigation updates.

The safest way to upgrade the firmware is to actually install it directly from a proper original Citroen Firmware CD. You can order it from a Citroen dealer for the princely sum of £2.58 including VAT! So won't break the bank. The part number is: 9679240380

This needs to be done with the engine running, and can take 30 - 45 minutes - so only do it when you have ample time, as it cannot be interrupted.

For the map situation, you still will need to get hold of a compatible SD card 16Gb minimum capacity - a higher capacity is ok, so if you can only locate a 32 Gb one these days that should be fine too. You will also need a card reader or the ability to read and write to the SD card in your computer - so a USB card reader will be fine and these can be got quite cheaply. This one from Currys is £9.99 and will do, if you don't already have one:

https://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/cameras-a ... 9-pdt.html

As for the Navigation Database, Citroen no longer support the MyWay system, so the last update for the maps was 2016-2. I will send you a private message concerning this.

Thanks Marc.

Sorry for the delay. I've been away on biz and the CD is on order. Will come back to you once I have it and have uploaded into the car.

Thanks.
Paul.
