I was in Lidl in Monmouth yesterday, they had an impact wrench, cordless that looked like a good deal until I read the label "This product does not include the battery or charger."

These "bare" units keep turning up of late - not really sure what their target market is.

Actually got round to using my Lidl's corded rattlegun (about £27 - I think) last evening. heavy ol' bit of kit, comes with 4 sockets &, judging by the flex, draws a fair amount of juice. Didn't want to undo most of the wheel bolts though - which proved not to actually be that tight. Made a nice job of re-fitting the wheel though - & didn't over-tighten the bolts. Not a patch on my cordless Hilka though, but a usefull addition to a garage.

Loads of stuff in Lidl's (including those axle stands -looked a bit spindly to me) including their excellent "mini compressor" i.e. electric tyre pump & a v. interesting rechargeable rattle gun (+ 4 sockets) that would also run off a cigar lighter. Best part of £50 is a lot of money to spend in my favourite discount grocers - but not a bad price at all for the product.

The axle stands I have are rated for 2 tonnes (and they are of that design). The tripod arms fold out so that they provide a stable base (with the lower part of the arm in contact with the ground across its' full length), but the main weight is carried by the tubular section, straight down from the vehicle into the ground. The height setting pin also has a locking pin to hold it in place, so that (assuming you remember to fit it) the main pin cannot accidentally come out.

I have a pair of those folding stands that may have come from Lidl's long ago (& probably did), which I've not had cause to use. The ones I saw on Thursday, from a passing glance at the box, did not immediately register as being the same. That's as much as I can say, it was only meant as a, literally, passing comment. of course any prospective purchaser would do well to pay more heed to another's actual experience of the same,or similar, product.

I got a pair, the welds were incomplete on the top....I complained and they did not care about the "safety" one bit.....my thinking changed to "not using cheep stuff to keep me alive", lesson learnt.
