Ah, I thought they were green - but then I am colour blind. They used to turn round at the end of the road along side the Medway, can't remember what it was called now, Tonbridge road maybe?

There may well have been a difference Peter between Maidstone and District Motor Services, which did operate green liveried vehicles, and those operated by Maidstone Corporation which operated the ochre and cream vehicles.

Don't think Maidstone And District Motor Services operated Trolley Buses, but the Maidstone Corporation did take a couple of Green Trolley buses from Hastings Corporation but according to this they were repainted before being put into service.

er….This little film may suggest that M&D Motor Services Did do Trolley Buses, but is that Maidstone? Bit too many seagulls on the soundtrack!

The Hastings system was announced for closure on one day, and being local to Maidstone & District Head Office, two of the Corporation staff were in Hastings the next day to chose the best of the fleet. Other buyers came a few days later and were disappointed to find the best had gone. It always seemed strange seeing the green trolleys in the Corporation [brown] garage. They never ran in service until they were re-painted.

The same thing happened in west London, where the newest and best of the trolleybuses (1950+ build, HYM.... registration) were sold off first - to Spain and S.Africa. In their place, ancient and unsaleable trolleys were put into service, until it was all finally dismantled in the mid-60s, and Routemasters took over.
Looking back, what a mistake, and something many other world cities didn't make. Today, what better than a clean, silent and fast urban surface transport? I remember when we had just that, travelling to school each day on it, and to London's then outer reaches.

I remember the Bournmouth trolley busses from the '40s when we were there on holiday, I even then was amazed how the climbed the hill going inland from the seafront.

Well some force areas have serious problems to deal with. There are criminals running away with fish under their arms from Northumbrian Water's Reservoirs. Thank goodness for....

Came across this the other day walking the dog while IKEA shopping was being taken care of, without me setting foot in IKEA

Yes I preferred mooching round looking for a scrapyard which I thought was just off Whickham Bank.

and wow I now know who might have written the famous tune to "Auld Lang Syne"....one of our own.
