Hydraulik pipe leak

Unread post by zeeshanzaki »

I found there is leak in pipe which runs from top through front bumper. I dont know if it is leak back pipe or something else. It is leaking from the end of hose which connect to metal pipe through a clamp ( same as attached). What is the procedure to replace this clamp. Do I have to lower the suspension to release pressure or just change it in normal height.

How do I undo the following clamp?

I think that you need to post a photo of the pipe and the clamp so that we know which one you are talking about.

most leakback pipes can be done without.

That type of retainer is often the reason for the leak.

You haven't stated what model of C5 you have - the systems differ as does the pipework.

Its C5 V6 01. I checked yesterday and looks like it stop leaking when put another clamp in front of existing one.

Its hard to take the photo but it goes under the hydrolic pump (please see the photo). I put some sealant to see if it stops the leaking.

I'm still having a problem identifying that hose from the picture, but one thing for sure is never use any sealant on hydraulic pipes - if any foreign matter gets into the hydraulic system it can easily contaminate the whole system!

If it is just a return pipe from the front or rear and only has a jubilee clip in (as per your photo), that is simply tightened and untightened using a small flat blade screwdriver to turn the screw. You should be able to loosen it and see if it has pinched or cut into the rubber pipe, and possibly move the clip and re-tighten it. But I really would remove any sealant straight away!

If you have your VIN, I can post up some diagrams of the piping for you to help us better identify the pipe correctly.

Is that perhaps an A/C hose?

Ok, I have your VIN now, so see if you can identify the pipe - this is the system fitted to your 3.0i V6 24v 210 (ES9J4S):

If you can specify which Diagram A to F and the number of the pipe in the diagram, I'll be able to identify the one for you.

77 is actually a clip, but if you mean pipe '3', that is the low pressure power steering pipe, seen a little better below where 'B' is on the diagram:
zees F Low Press Pipe.PNG
I believe it's curled up at the front to help cool the fluid on some models. So if you need to take the pipe off, be aware that although it is low pressure, you will get fluid coming out (and don't re-use any old LDS fluid).

You could always try another jubilee clip - if you unscrew them all the way, you should be able to remove the band, place the clip around the pipe, feed the band back into the ratchet and gently start tightening it up.

That clip has a 7mm screw head, you can use a socket on it...……….easier than using a screwdriver. :)
