Hi Dean and welcome.

The MyWay system (RNEG) does not have Voice control - that is only available on the NG4 Navidrive 3D system. It was available on earlier systems in limited format on the RT3 and RT4/5 systems.

You press the left hand stalk to repeat the last voice guidance function - but that of course is only relevant when you have navigation functioning and with guidance on.

Your firmware is out of date, but I would only suggest you upgrade it if you are having other issues. Firmware updates can go wrong... You won't gain any other functionality with an update - it just usually fixes some bugs.

Ah ok, well that clears it up for me, I was just going by what was in user manual, but I guess they were just being broad when writing it. Thanks for your help Marc much appreciated.

Hi All,
The issues with constant restarting of the Myway/RNEG in my C5 simply has not gone away, despite all the possible fixes. The more I look on other forums the more it seems there is an inherent fault in the EEPROM. So I am left with 2 options -1. Pull the head unit out, take it apart and see if it is possible to replace the EPROM - 2. Find a replacement unit from a breaker. I don't feel competent at all with option 1, but could go with option 2. However I am not sure what I need to look out for in terms of getting a compatible unit. Has anyone done this, or got any advice on how to do it? My VIN is VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
Thanks
Francis

Hi Francis. This is a common failing with them. These units actually use Flash memory instead of a hard disk, and the cells can only be written to so many times, but yes, there are also issues with the EEPROM chips on some units. It would seem that the software in the chip gets corrupted and needs to be rewritten, but you need a special bit of software and tools to do it.

Sourcing another unit is simp,e enough if you can find one in eBay. You will need it VIN coding to your vehicle though. You might decide to send the other one off for a repair and then sell one of them to recoup some of the cost possibly. There are a couple of links in the main Telematics forum you could try for a quote.

HI Marc,
Many thanks. I like the idea of repair and re-sell. My only concern with buying one off ebay is whether it has the same issue :(

Well you should very soon be able to tell, and would be covered by ebay’s Buyer protection and what was the distance selling regs. It has to work as described, but if it is not as described or faulty, you are covered, plus with PayPal additionally, plus with your Credit Card failing that if you pay by it.

I personally would not recommend buying from Aliexpress or similar setup as they are not covered by the same laws and don’t offer the same protection.

Hi I'm new to this forum and have had the same issues with the rebooting head unit to the point where it eventually factory resets itself.

After reading this I was hoping that by removing the Sd card it may have cured the problem but sadly it did not.

However I have now removed the 2 x smaller square multi plugs that plug into the big multi plug and so far after 3 days it has not rebooted.

I read somewhere that the economy mode could cause the problem and that this is controlled by the main ecu?

The problem is not with the head unit as I purchased one from ebay which rebooted also. The seller kindly sent me a 2nd one to try which also rebooted.

So now I'm back to my original unit, the aux connection and the Bluetooth is no longer working since I disconnected these 2 plugs but at least (hopefully) I'm narrowing down the actual issue, any feed back greatly appreciated. Cheers

Can you pop your VIN up for me here (it will automatically be masked from public view), so I can check out exact specs of your X7.

A lot of these failures can stem from a faulty internal flash drive, but also from a corrupt SD card. Try taking the SD card out and rebooting the system once you have connected everything back up - but a warning - always unplug the Quadlock connector first and attach it back last - as this can brick the system if you unplug other connectors like the screen interface whilst it is powered...

Nothing more than confirming what I suspected. There are a multitude of fault codes that can be returned for these units, but little that can be done unfortunately. What is the firmware version you have on your unit? Sometimes a firmware update may help.

To check the firmware:
Switch on the radio-navigation system (RNEG)
Press button SETUP
Select "system parameters" then "software version"

Write down the version info and post it back. If it is lower than 27.01 then an update may be in order.

It shows this rneg_D_R20ter_R20. 07 but I paid my local garage about a year ago to do a firmware update. Is this still really old then? Thanks
