Front door speaker blown

Post by MikeT »

Investigating a horrible occasional audio buzz, I find my front left door speaker has a 2-3inch tear in the cone.

Any recommendations for decent budget replacements? I do, albeit very rarely visit the F.Loud side of the volume when the mood/music requires it.
Are the rears the same fitment too?

Thanks in advance

Aftermarket ones rarely go in exactly right, would you be happy with a replacement of the original?

The part number is 6562X2 for the loudspeaker and actually better value brand new from Citroen at £11.86 inc VAT!

I’ve seen second hand used eBay ones costing much more!

£11.86 ???

When you consider their profit margin they're probably paying about £20 for the 4 main speakers in a car... that's disgraceful, glad I changed mine!

Will put in a good word for Pyle Pro (PWM5 and PWM6, iirc), which can be had though Amazon.
Pyle Audio website has precisely dimensioned drawings and details of each.
Good price, and excellent quality.

But when you consider ebay used ones are going for £10 each, I know I would buy a brand new one for £11.86 if I was wanting to keep the original speakers and not have to drill out extra holes and the like. There are some used pairs for £12-£15 quid - but I really wouldn't go for a used one as it's a false economy if it blows again in 6 months time :-D

Might as well, at that price. Being paper cones, the rears will be tired, if not torn already.

Picked the new speakers up today but the original rears are different. The plastic grill is grey, not black as per the fronts, and the fitments appear to be spaced differently (screw and lug holes). Shame because the left rear has two small tears in the outer cone too.

Interestingly, although I could clearly hear distortion on the front left broken speaker I had no idea the drivers-side front had an even bigger tear in the cone than the left. Probably because...
With the new fronts fitted, it is so much louder now I can only surmise I've been mostly listening to the radio (average volume level 10-14 when driving) through the tweeters on the dash all this time!

Very odd - confirmed as the same part number Mike - so I think your 'tunes' have caused a 'speaker quake' and relocated the fixings! :-D

Time to give Black Sabbath a rest and opt for a bit of 'Hooked on Classics' maybe!

I got that same diagram when I looked up my VIN on Service.Citroen, Marc - I don't have speaker #3 in my rear doors so assumed it's the wrong drawing altogether - perhaps for the saloons?

The original speakers are made in Poland by "ASK" and the rears also have different part numbers to the fronts as well as grill colour and fitment positions.

My invoice is hand-stamped "SPECIAL ORDER ITEMS: NON-RETURNABLE" so my next conversation with Pentons is going to be interesting!

Hi Mike - number 2 is supposed to be the correct part for both front and rear door speakers with the tweeters shown in the dash as at 1. I suspect that number 3 is / was for the JBL equaliser Amp possibly that had another speaker....

In either case, the standard ones should fit as the only other alternatives I can see under accessories are Pioneer ones that they offered.

Strewth, call me Mr Magoo. There's a redundant lughole I stupidly used that threw out the screwholes. All four speakers replaced now.

So to recap, all were torn along the outer part of the cone. Feels like some sort of foam, rather than paper? Will test the full sound later when I go shopping as ECO mode had kicked in.
