Ended up recycling it and buying a proper OEM one. Expensive, but they should last a lifetime. The issue is when having it serviced the mechanics NEVER manage to put everything back and always lose clips and fastenings, somwhen going at speed they gradually get forced down and then clipped or caught on speed ramps and the like and before long they just shatter and come away.

That was the fate of mine :(

And yet the Polish undertray on my Mk1 was still on the car when I sold it. Maybe there is more than one "original" source in Poland?

There probably is now Paul, I did have a good look at the time, but it was so poor, didn’t fir, was wrongly drilled and basically as strong as a chocolate teapot.

I’m glad to say the X7 under engine protection is looking as solid as at new.

Which is more than can be said for the steering rack!

Oh heck, is every thread about a C5 X7 problem now going to spin off on a tangent to talk about the steering rack? :mrgreen:

Well, that was a very useful (and massively money saving) trip to the scrappy. Both of the larger pieces, a replacement sensor pipe, and a few other bits, all for £40!!! All I need to do now is to find a PSA dealership local to me where I can get the securing bits.

They also had an X reg Xantia 2.0HDi SX and an early Saxo (so if anybody wants bits it could be worth giving them a call. If anybody wants to know more about them I took a photo (which shows their reg);

Try the dealer near me in Binfield. They're usually pretty good at getting bits and I can always bike them over to you if they need to be ordered. Freeborn Wokingham.

There was only a Mk1 and Mk2 in there. No X7, and I would not know what to look for on the steering rack (apart from the lack of a puddle, that is).

Will do on the way over to you. I will not be able to replace the deflectors straight away anyway, as there are six studs with nuts on each one that need to come undone, and they look rather worryingly cruddy! When I removed the deflectors at the scrappy six nuts came undone, and six studs came away. I would rather this not happen on MY C5! I have a small wire brush, a Dremel style tool with a phosphor bronze brush, and plenty of Plus Gas, just to make sure.

Well, just to be different my C5 Mk1 is using the last mounting fixtures in her series. After having a look underneath I find that she is using 7013 V8 (combined rivet). 12 nuts and 22 rivets are setting me back just under £40. To see what the 7013 V8 looks like you have to open up the C5 II page for the undertray parts.

A lot of those fixings can be had off Ebay for pennies if you can identify them.
