bobins wrote: 10 Jun 2018, 20:08 Apologies if you've covered this before, but do you know what condition your steering rack is in ? I ask purely to see if there was a production year that they were modified with better components and so don't fail. It is possible to just about see the condition of the pinion shaft by shining a torch through the wheel on driver's side wheel arch and hunting around to find it, but you get a much clearer view by inspecting it via the driver's footwell - about a half hour job (including cup of tea) and needing only a 10mm socket and a 13mm socket or ratchet spanner.

I'm not equipped to self-inspect for time being, but did get a set of photos taken through the wheel, and got a dealership time for first thing tomorrow morning. Topics to cover:

1) calibration of my RT6 RNEG2 retrofit (zero gps, bluetooth echo)
RT6 RNEG2 1/2
RT6 RNEG2 1/2
RT6 RNEG2 2/2
RT6 RNEG2 2/2
2) steering rack inspection
Steering rack 1/4
Steering rack 1/4
Steering rack 2/4
Steering rack 2/4
Steering rack 3/4
Steering rack 3/4
Steering rack 4/4
Steering rack 4/4
3) general thp engine care strategy, looks like really gotta baby this one..

Stay tuned on this bat channel for further updates tomorrow.

Very nice, but it turns out they have automatic geolocation redirect. I can't even view the post when I'm logged in from another country :/

EDIT fortunately direct FB comment thread link works fine, after all.

Surprised at Citroen's response................NOT

Citroën Hi Alasdair, thanks for coming back to us. It's difficult for us to predict the life of each part. But we'd expect any manufacturing defect to come to light within the first three years / 60,000 miles - whichever comes first. Outside of warranty we look to help with repairs - this is based on age, mileage, service & purchase history. For any technical advice, we'd recommend speaking with a trained technician at your local Citroën dealership.

Well, it's also clear that any social media manager will not have the authorization to admit to anything at all.

Esp. something that can potentially cost PSA tens of millions £/€ if not more.

Which is why oversight agencies need to get involved to force recall / safety compliance. This is bound to be a project. Crowdfunding, anyone...? Maybe cheaper than keep re-fitting broken racks :)

Agree, but pressure via S-media may get the person responsible at Citroen involved...this is my only hope via SM.

I wish you luck with Citroen but I doubt if you will get anywhere. I got precisely nowhere with my c2 sensodrive gearbox which failed as regularly as c5 steering racks.

This also comes up easily on google
To anyone considering purchasing a C5, a word of caution. I am the owner of a 2008 Citroën C5 Exclusive, which I have owned for three years. In the time I've owned it, I've had the usual bills for wear and tear, but also last year had to have one of the suspension hydraulic rams replaced, which cost me almost £1000. Recently, my suspension has begun leaking LDS fluid, and on examination by a garage I have been informed that the steering rack now needs replaced. I have checked online, and this seems to be a very common fault in C5s from 2008. I can provide links to owners with similar faults if needed.
