steering wheel movement

Hi, my S1 Xantia 1.9 TD, the steering wheel , when braking, there is slight movement , north to south, it feels like something is loose, any help or guidance would be greatly appreciated, many thanks Terry.

From your initial description it sounds like your discs might be warped causing the vibration when braking. How long have they been on since changing?

They can warp from the excessive heat buildup and then rapid cooling, like going through water. I go through a set of discs every 2 or 3 pad changes.

I experienced a similar problem on a BX where the lower bearing in the steering column had slid down the shaft, it slid back up and was good.
BXs since 1993 built 1.9 TZD turbo, got a S2 Xantia estate, brilliant car! 2013, Xantia HDI LX 110 2000 new car with 122,000, l C2 HDI Rusty rocket, C3 Picasso HDI new to me.
