1984 GSA Timing Help

Unread post by Anx »

Hello I could use some help with setting my timing belts, I'm restoring my 1984 GSA 1300 motor and I bought new belts and tension bearings, I do not have a good manual the Haynes manual I have does not show the correct install of the belts, they have the white marks on them that I lined up with the marks on the cams and the main crank.
when I go to hand turn the engine it only goes a little in each direction then dead stops, so I know this is not right? does any one kno

I note there appear to be at least four Haynes Manuals for the '71 to '85 GSA on Ebay UK. P'raps they're not available over there.

We all know how 'fallible' the BoL is, but its better than nowt!

I should think at least one of 'em 'll send it across the pond.

Links included coz I know how it can be blooming impossible to get onto a foreign version of Ebay without 'em.

NB: If you didn't see Guy Martin compete in the race across Arizona (forget the name, but he had to average about 150mph and it was a couple of hours long).... its worth a watch if you can find it online.
He chose a Ford Transit to do it in !

Thanks everyone for the help, I found out the motor needed new piston rings that was the issue after sitting in storage for 17 years it needed a minor rebuild and cleaning.
