Re: Snow good!
So what type of snow are you getting? Up here it is very powdery, and you can't make a decent snowball out of it. It is the type of snow which can create an even greater hazard than negotiating slippy bits on the road and the odd drift to negotiate your way past.
No matter how fast your windscreen wipers are, in exposed places when the wind gets up, all the powdery snow even if it isn't actually snowing at the time can get whipped up into an instant white-out. One of those and you literally can't see anything at all, not the road, not approaching cars/lorries nothing.
Colleague of mine described his experience yesterday as frightening, and thank god for cats eyes....not for seeing but rumbling over to give you some idea of where the middle of the road was, until he could pull in and stop.
Regards Neil

Re: Snow good!
We're still waiting for it here Neil - not even salt-sized flakes at present. Though when I look at the news reports and see cars just getting stuck - why aren't people carrying snow socks / composites like these Easy grips that take 5 minutes to put on, or less and just slip over the drive wheels. They can be had from £60 up depending on wheel size and will easily last for years depending on use as long as you don't drive on non-snow covered roads.
Things like a telescopic shovel, waterproof gloves and a pair of boots you can fling in the back of the car if you really have to go out in the snow to start with.
A small shovel is only a tenner: And one of these for brushing the snow from the windshield scuttle: £3.66! I think I should do a stint on the shopping channel
I've managed to get up 1:10 hills here in mountainous Wales easily without any problem with some easy grips on the front tyres.
I think all BM Dubya car owners should simply stay at home with their rear wheel drives - they just block the road for others.

Re: Snow good!
Just got that powdery stuff here just now - which in addition to causing periodic instant whiteout conditions - gets *everywhere* when you're out in it!
Quite interesting to look outside and see the snow going in a totally different direction outside every window.

Well I have made it to about 4pm now without suffering death (as predicted by the forecasters who issue the warnings) in our RED-ZONE, I am still a little worried as they are saying there is still a high likelihood of death.

Re: Snow good!
I agree and I think it's because we rarely get the falls of snow we used to, when I was kid snowed in for 3 weeks in Burnhaven, small village just outside Peterhead (1960's) besides the Long John Distillery.
I remember a morris minor being discovered under the snow drifts at my school after the snow left. Apparently the car started first time and was driven away!!!!
Kenny
PS I have about 12 inches of snow, reminds me when I was doing my bosch pump overall. It was the same conditions winds from the east driving the snow in.

Well, our local corner shop is fresh out of milk and bread. Apparently the delivery lorry is stuck in the snow on the motorway somewhere.
Annoying.

Re: Snow good!
Its so bad up here I had to bicycle down to the Co-op to get an emergency bottle of Jack Daniels.
When I got there I thought how stupid, If I fell of the bike, the bottle would break So I drank the Jack Daniels before I cycled home. Good job I did as I fell off the bike seven times on the way home.
Regards Neil

Re: Snow good!
I've been trying to work out how bad it will be here tomorrow. The MetOffice website says there's slim chance of precipitation overnight, whereas BBC Weather reckons there's a medium-low chance of heavy snow overnight. Is a low chance of no snow the same as a low chance of snow ? I think flipping a coin will give me a more accurate forecast : heads - snow, tails - no snow.
