Old Citroen Advertisements

Post by Richard_C »

I was looking for something airline history related and stumbled on this site:

www.advertisingarchives.co.uk

You can browse for free, ignore the exhortation to register, you only pay if you want to download images. Put Citroen in the search box and 60+ adverts appear, click magnifying glass for a closer look.

Among them the classic black and white DS ones, charming 2CV ones, and the utterly tasteless 2004 C2 campaign: would you buy a car advertised as "knicker dropper glory" (their words, not mine). I think my favourite is Advance and be Recognised, but its a close run thing.

The slogan that made me squirm was for the C4 when it first came out.

"Alive with Technology"

Makes me shudder just thinking about it.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Inside every old person is a young person wondering what the hell happened.

I thought it was a good line and worked brilliantly with the robot ad (which was also brilliant). It certainly captured the minds of the target market at the time (my mates and I were in it, we all thought it was brilliant and one even went and bought one!)
