Dispatch / Expert RD4 Radio

Ok I know this may be a security related question, so if hecessary, can someone pm the answer if its something not to made publc. Is it easy to remove the radio? When I eventually get aother of these vans, I want to put my own radio in, which is better than the standard factory fitted item.
Cheers Rich

Nothing wrong with asking about the radio system Rich :)

The only thing you need to be aware of is the possible loss of functionality from the steering wheel controls for the audio and bluetooth functions (if fitted) and will depend on the factory fitted unit you have to start with as to whether the head unit controls any of the vehicles configuration options - so worth considering.

If nearer the time you want to check, just notify us of the VIN of the newer vehicle and I can check what options it has for you and what options (if any) you might have to loose.

Thanks for that Marc I will get back to you re radio removal nearer the time. I must praise the members of this forum for the help received. The Rover forum I belong to os the same. Pity the same cant be said for the Transit forum I joined. Not much in the way of answers to my questions there. Just as well Im changing again. I was persuaded to buy a Transit by two friends who both have work association with vans. One told me French vans were sh... Having had 3 I can disagree with that. Althougj the Kangoo petrol I had was crap, but the 2 Citroens 👍👍

That's nice to hear, and makes it all worthwhile for us Rich.

Re the Vans - I guess it will be swings and roundabouts - all manufacturers will have their share of 'Lemons', but I do see more PSA vans on the road now than ever before, so perhaps that might reflect popularity.

Dont get me wrong , the Transit is a great van, but the bodies are naff, they rust like crazy, and only 10 years old too. The 04 Dispatch I had was far better bodywise than the Transit is, it just came to the end of ts usef7l working life for me,after several things started going wrong.

Ok, so you have the standard RD4, without CD Changer, or hands free kit, so what you will likely lose is the ability to change any units of temperature for example / speed and if it is like the other vehicles, the ability to see any basic diagnostic errors / faults that can be retrieved using the menu option. Also the RD4 can configure some options like auto lighting, and some other options depending on equipment, but I see from the spec. that this is a basic no frills model - so shouldn't have any other diverse consequences.

You'll need this type of pin removal tool and make sure you disconnect the battery before removing the radio - to reduce risk of damaging the screen display.

Once you have inserted the pins and carefully pulled it out, just disconnect the quadblock first and then the aerial.
You may need an adapter harness for the new radio, just make sure it is for PSA vehicles with RD4 and you should be fine.
