I total agree, thats why no where in that vid did I overtake him. He was always in front of me otherwise the middle of his car would not have hit the front of mine.

The other driver was clearly in the wrong on all three basic counts
Mirror, signal, manoevre.

Good driving includes anticipating other road users' expected movements and behaviour. It's a part of 'defensive driving', and many of us who have driven for a living have been trained in it.

This includes dealing with other drivers who take roundabouts wrongly or oddly, and not tailgating or entering other drivers blind-spots.

The only safe way to take a UK roundabout is to ensure that you are in the right-hand lane in good time to leave it on the right. Leaving an occupied roundabout from a centre or left lane is always risky, because it fails to take into account those to your right who may have other ideas.

The way you took that roundabout was a gamble, and a failure on your part to adequately anticipate. In this case, the gamble didn't pay off. Worth learning from.

I can imagine the tail back on the approach to all roundabouts if we had to only enter when the other lane was empty. I think only having 2 accidents in 25 years of driving (on the exact same spot lol ) and both of them not being my fault says something about my driving. Thats over 350'000 miles.

@white exec having had parents and a brother living in fuengirola for 10 years, my accident is a daily occupancy over there. Its so normal that they don't even stop anymore.

Just trying to help you avoid being a victim again.

There's a great book if you can get hold of it called Roadcraft. It's what the police use (or used to use) for training. Has some great advice on how not to be taken out by numpties like that.

It doesn't matter that it's not your fault, you could have avoided the hassle of making a claim, going to physio, etc. for the sake of dropping back eight feet.

We can all avoid most crashes, stop driving. It doesn't matter what I done if he thinks its ok to do what he did, if it wasn't me that time then it would be someone else next time.

I'm gonna say this one more time, the people that matter knew it was 100% not my fault, so a bunch of amateur traffic cops isn't gonna make any difference.

Gary.

So if you find yourself in the same circumstances again you'll do the same?

We're not amateur traffic cops some of us, probably most of us, on here have a wealth of driving experience.

So did that old man that hit me. Probably been driving for 60 years and he also thought he knew best.

We can all avoid accidents if we all drive slow. So next time your driving along and someone cuts into your lane and hits you, remember its also your fault for know anticipating that he was going to do that. Do you slow down when someone overtakes you so they can jump in, in front of you.

well lets see in 25 years of driving thats the first time an old man has decided to change lanes on a roundabout without looking in his mirror and hit me. Will I be driving in 25 years who knows.

Yes, you should be anticipating all the time, not just 'driving along'.
Do you slow down when being overtaken? Maybe not, but you might think twice about continuing to accelerate, and think 'What if...", and maybe allowing some extra space to accumulate between you and the car in front.

Good driving involves continually thinking "What if...". Ask any any Advanced Driver.

I could ask myself "Will I stop when the car in front of me has crashed" I think all of us would say yes to that, but when I did that 10 years ago on the same spot on the same roundabout another old man rammed into the back of me, this was after I had stopped for over 15 seconds. So dont take it the wrong way if I think thats a stupid question.

My judgement then, for what it's worth, is that you will continue to have avoidable collisions.

I don't fall out with what your say and I have never said I was a good driver. I bet none of us are. If your sitting at road works on a motorway and some guy drives down the lane thats closed, would you let him in, a good driver would but I bet most of the people here wouldn't, 2 wrongs dont make a right and driving up someone backside just to stop the other driver getting in is definitely not right.

Just because I could have avoided something doesn't make it my fault that it happened, thats all I'm am trying to say.
