I suspect that the simple answer is an excess of real life getting in the way. Plus I know Jim has issues with solvents in paints and such like which is a bit of a barrier to doing work like that.

It's also a horrible, horrible messy unpleasant job! Which is why only specific bits of the Lada have been done but quite a bit is still waiting to be done.

Will get some more wax in stock though, as getting some rust neutraliser and cavity wax into those sills shouldn't be too big a project in the grand scheme of things.

This is always worth a re-post (not me!) There are allegedly better products than Waxoyl, but nothing is better than free stuff .

Waxoyling...
I really wanted to get some of this into the Land Rover's chassis before I started using it. I had gone to Halfords and bought 2 gallons, and knocked off work early.
I also had the real benefit that SWMBO was out so I had since 3.00pm been shoving the 2 gallon cans into the sink with near boiling water. I should have known things were going to go “slightly wrong” when I started.
I decided to use a Waxoyl gun and my compressor, I had the propane burner on in the workshop since 3.00pm flat out and it was like the Sahara, in fact it was so hot I decided a T-shirt and shorts was the dress code.
Grabbing some white spirit to further thin the waxoyl I entered the kitchen and unscrewed the waxoyl lid.
Thhhhuuuumpppppppp !…great big snotty big dollop spewed out over the kitchen work-surface... no probs I thought, ...I’ll sort that out when I’ve finished, as I might make "a little bit more mess yet".... glad she's not in.
Clutching hot waxoyl injector thingy, part filled with waxoyl and mixed with very very warm white spirit I squirted and soaked the chassis blasting away, and also practising holding my breath as it went misty in the workshop.
1 Gallon later I was nearly there, I was at the rear cross member, with yet another huge refill.
I ought to point out that I had also decided that at some of the angles I was at pulling and holding the trigger was a pain so I had devised a cunning lock of an elastic band on the trigger so that I could let it do it things whilst it sprayed away. Shove tube into hole and pull trigger… lock and waggle etc.
Enter the cat.
It sat there and looked at me the way only a cat can... it sniffed (disapprovingly) the dripped waxoyl, and I said…
“Huh, you don’t want to be in here matey, this stuff will stick to your fur like brown stuff to a blanket”……and at that very point the jammed on tube extension came off the gun.
Could I release the elastic band round the trigger ? Could I XXXXXX.
The gun squirted warm waxoyl/white spirit out at a force never so far experienced, one particularly good jet hit the cat, who bolted, knocking over the 2/3 empty (1/3 full!!) can of hot waxoyl/white spirt mix, which flowed oh so well under the landy, and into my clothes T shirt and clothes and skin areas exposed..., but I was still fighting with the hot octopus trying to switch the damned thing off, but I failed, I was saved when it ran out.
Just when I thought nothing could get worse than lying under a Land Rover with waxoyl soaked clothes, waxoyl dripping onto my hair and face, and running into my ears... Some waxoyl dripped onto the lead lamp... ping... Blackness.
It also pinged the fuse for the lighting circuit, getting myself out of the underneath of the landy proved fruitful, in that I knew all the places that waxoyl had “leaked”.
Removing dripping clothes I entered house in “minimal Clothes” to resolve fuse prob, when Lights went on I saw the cat…

This did not improve the sink/kitchen area one little jot, .....ever tried holding a 'waxoyled cat' in a sink with water and rags, and especially when cat does not enjoy it ?
1 hour later cat was scrubbed and very peed off with me, I’ve had 2 baths, and also cleaned the bath it seems that the bath will not be rusty...scrubbed kitchen floor, sink, worktop
Will she notice?
Cat stinks, garage sticks, alley way stinks, I stink, kitchen smells of lemon washing up liquid, which strangely we seem to nearly be out of, floor stinks.
She will be back any minute [gulp]. Nice job on the Landy tho....... ))
...later that evening...... Alleyway door closes and SWMBO walks in..... "have a nice time dear ?......." "what the HELL is that smell ?"

"yes really and [ picks up cat - I look away at telly and pray]...and ....good grief even the cat smells of it its ....[ at this point the cat growls.....probably hand enough of being "handled" during the evening...]..."WELL if you're going to be like that madam you grumpy old thing" ...[places cat down firmly - cat grumbles some more].. cat exits still grumbling

That gave me a good laugh. Have never had *quite* that level of disaster with sealants, but can definitely associate with the way a very specific sequence of events can unfold that way...been there, done that.

Can safely say that the dog would be inside - we've already played the game of trying to get paint out of his tail during decorating.

Usually Dinitrol I use these days when I can find it. Waxoyl really isn't up to much these days...it seems to stick to everything else far better than the car. Do still have some in stock though which does occasionally get used when nothing else is to hand and I'm ten minutes away from being finished though.

This one will get the same as the activa got, a whole tin of dinitrol into each sill now they are solid. The patch will get a little grind down and a bit of filler before some paint and it will be fine, and the other side will get the flaky rust wire brushed off and a paint too. May not be red paint though lol

I dare say alasdair will soon be saying his are better Jim lol. They do look good though. I don’t know about red hammerite Peter, I will use what I have which will be black or silver. I don’t know if the sills and door bottoms will be staying red. This car may end up multi coloured aka a golf harlequin lol

The weather has been horrid here since I came back from the orkneys. Much rain and standing water. I dont know when Zel put the falkens onto Gabby, but they are suffering aquaplaning and a general lack of grip from the front. I have just measured the tread depth, the fronts are approx 3.5mm and the rears approx 7mm. This just goes to show that even with double the legal minimum tread depth tyres deteriorate and the advice to change them at 3mm is sound advice. My berlingo has found its way home, it now has a broken windscreen to go on the list of jobs for it to get an MOT so it is going to get sold for spares/repairs as I have no inclination to see to a windscreen, back axle, clonking from front, pathetic handbrake, broken rear light and anything else it may need. It also has my 17" wolfrace alloys on it, which are shod with decent tyres, so you have one guess where they are going to find themselves! Gabby herself is continuing to be brilliant, clocking up miles at a good rate, bigpug isnt getting much use at all, and lilpug is hibernating.

Yep, im having nothing to do with the berlingo. It is actually great mechanically just too much needed for test. I have done one berlingo axle already and not doing another. With a recon axle being £300 and whatever a windscreen costs that makes it uneconomic for me to do.
Its just the amount of water and mud on the roads here making gabby struggle for grip. To be fair if I were to swap the tyres back to front that would probably improve things a lot. I've done 1400 miles in her since I picked her up. Thats maybe taken 1/2 a mm off the tyres lol

The axle would be the showstopper for me Davie... I've done one on a 205 in the past... Not overly difficult but time-consuming and needing of a lot of strength and agility as I remember!

Tyres went on virtually when I got the car as it had four different tyres on when I got it, one the wrong way around and one nearly bald. Even slightly damp handling was downright scary. So that would have been around November 2014 if I remember right.

Tyres don't wear out with me - they perish through old age!

I would say the tyres are 3 years old nearly and done nearly 15000 miles. The fronts would do quite a few more, just need to be careful in the wet, and the rears would last forever lol

Not been much in the way of dry days here to get anything done outside. Gabby is starting understeering in the wet now the falkens are around 3mm. Time to change them, either new tyres or stick on the 17" wolfrace that noone liked on the activa. Thats the cheap option so probably what will happen. Theres no cheap veg oil in the suoermarket today, and i was nearly on the red sector so she got 58litres of asdas finest derv @117.9 per litre. Cheapest veg I saw was 109 per litre, so not mucking about for 9p per litre, when the fuel consumption is a little worse on the mixture. She is still running great, Shaun had a go in her and proclamed her "thats nae a bad thing for an old citroen". I take that as a compliment lol.

Bigpug I havent even looked at since she got upset last week. I think it will be a call to the AA, they can come and stick a code reader onto it to see what the sulk is about.

Lilpug I have not set eyes on for a month. I really should go down and give her a little run.

Berlingo is lying at the side of the house. I need to change the wheels on it and get rid. Scrap yard becons for it I would say even though the body is not rusty and the engine is ok. Easy option no stress required.
