If I need the car I would go from Gills Bay to St Margaret’s Hope on Pentland Ferries, much cheaper than scrabster to stromness on northlink.

Did that very thing yesterday... I was, er, quite tired by the time we got here though - up at 05:00, left the house at 05:30, arriving at John O'Groats (300 miles) at 11.30 (with only a short stop over in Aviemore), then onto the Ferry, and a further 25 miles on this side, finally getting to cottage at 15:30. Still all worked out OK! Off to Hoy tomorrow hopefully.

I’ve just done a brim to brim consumption check every mile of it doing the running it’s going to do. Not nearly as good as Jim got with her but then I’m mostly urban stop start not 50mph cruise from MK to Somerset lol. 45 mpg. I’m happy with that given the use it gets. It’s better than anything that’s done the pizza runs apart from the 107.

I’ve just been on a rescue mission with Gabby. My daughter, her mother, her granny, and my granddaughter were away in my ex wife’s 12 reg focus and it broke. No gears, I suspect broken linkage but don’t care lol. I rescued the 4 generations and left the focus where it is. It was parked safely. It’s not my problem. Any vehicle of hers ceased to be my problem 15 years ago when she decided to run off with my mate. 10 years ago I would have picked up my daughter and granddaughter and left the ex and her mother. I must be mellowing into a better, or perhaps more tolerant person now!

Sounds pretty much spot on for the economy Davie. 43.3mpg was the overall average in my ownership and I'd expect you to get a bit better not driving around Milton Keynes.

Yes, in normal use 45mpg from a 1.9TD is about on the mark...

I say normal as my driving is anything but

The only thing I'm good at when driving is getting superb economy... My record still stands at 71mpg from my erstwhile C1

It'll be interesting to see what i can squeeze out of my new Saxo...

45mpg for stop start motoring is amazing to me, I don't get anywhere near that on either of my cars just cruising!

It was a long time before I was on this forum that she broke me, and I swore I would never have anything to do with her again. However since our kids started getting married and having grandkids, and of course the passage of time I have mellowed. Keeping grudges only hurts me. I can be in the same room as her, indeed have to be on many occasions now, if im at my daughters and she walks in, im not leaving. Just get on with it. I will never forget what she did, but my natural forgiving nature has kicked in.

Mine too, I'm not sure whether I've become mellower, or just realised life's too short to give a toss, and not get stressed about things.

That is an excellent attitude... I try so hard to live by that.. Only the prospect of MOT tests throw me off-course these days

Even after the car is rehomed hundreds of miles away lol. Check those door shuts on the activa. If you cant poke a finger through they are fine. Thats all the tester used on gabby.

I will. I think they are OK as they look pretty much perfect but looks and how they actually are can be very deceiving I never realised gabby's were as bad as they were
