Hi Vlad, on the NEW brown connector, there should be some number codes on the blue and white wires, either 4 numbers or 4 numbers and a letter. Can you let me know what is on each?

On the diagram. although it shows a third wire from the display side for the rheostat, only 2 are shown entering the Head unit from the brown connector - so probably the third wire is not needed as the rheostat lighting is particular to the Colour display and can be set independently.
  • As for fitting. Again - make a copy or printout of all settings in the BSI first for the old unit in case you need to revert back temporarily.
  • Before fitting any of the new units, use Diagbox to ensure you have the right configuration for screen and head unit and VIN code the unit (unless they have done this for you beforehand). Once configured, I would do a BSI reset to reboot the systems and then see if it all works.

I am sorry, I made a mistake. The Brown connector from the new display has three wires and not two. Unfortunately I cannot read so good the numbers but I can attach here the photos.

What do you suggest? To use the pinout exactly like in the link from the first page of this topic?

No, that's good, just plug it in - As you can see from the 3 wires I have highlighted below, the power and earth seem to go directly into the Head Unit and the third Rheostat wire goes off to the other side of the unit - but I can't see a separate connector for that - hence my previous thoughts.
Vlad Wiring.PNG
So you have what was expected - so you should be fine - but ALWAYS disconnect the battery following the BSI / battery reset procedure before disconnecting any of the head units.

Close the doors and leave window down, wait 5 minutes and then disconnect the battery negative terminal and ensure it does not make contact again. wait for another 5 minutes and then replace the units and connect up the wires. When all is in place, close all the doors, wait a couple of minutes and then reconnect the battery and wait for 2-3 minutes without opening the doors or touching anything. Then you can follow the rest of the procedure, check the locking and unlocking etc.

Then check your configuration in Diagbox if necessary. Let us know how it goes.

I was a little bit confused regarding the third Rheostat wire which goes off to the other side of the unit. In the first page, there is a link to a pinout. And it is said that this third wire, no. 2, must go into Connector Part B, at position no. 5. But after that, I saw that vbrovic had the screen upside down.

Therefore, it is still unclear for me, shall I connect the pin 2 from Brown connector to Pin 5 from Connector Part B (Navigation) or leave it removed? (Vbrovic said that after disconnecting the third ground pin, the image went back to normal)....

In the photo of him, you can see this third wire removed.

This is quite hard to visualise for me as I can't see anything - and all these links are for other head units (that link was RT3 to RT4) - RT3 is quite old now with fibre optic connections - so I can't comment on that setup. AS for Vborovic he had to buy lots of parts as he didn't have the exclusive model - so again , I don't know if his wiring had to be modified further.

If you have the complete unit and connectors from the donor car White and brown, then they should plug into the back of the RT6 like they originally did on the donor car. Unless your quad lock is different... Can you contact the seller and check on the quad lock connections from the donor car?

The problem is that there are LOTS of wiring diagrams for all the different options - different telematics units, head units, hands free units, screens, etc. and I can't just pull these up without the right combination of options as the wiring is significantly different.

As long as the power and earth wires from brown go into the RT6 as intended - the rheostat wire should not be significant at this stage. I can't think why it needs to be moved if the connectors are from an RT6 screen and head unit.

Ideally, I need the VIN from an X7 that had RT6 installed at factory in order to check out the pins. Do you know what the original VIN of the RT6 unit you have is - or can you find out?

Until I will find out from the seller the VIN code from the car, I have a VIN from another car of a friend, which has already a navigation system, but I assume not RT6, but is RT4. Can you please check the wiring? VIN: VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]

I have plenty for the RT4, but not the RT6 - which is what I need for a comparison between the 2 units Vlad.

Ok, I've found one - so will have a look shortly.

I will try to find out from the seller soon. I have jsut received a bad new from one colleague, that RNEG2 display needs two fans. Without these fans, the display can be easily burned. Is it correctly?

I've just located an X7 with RT6, so will have a look shortly - it still could be a different spec with different options - but I should be able to see what pins go into the unit overall.

As to your other question - the cooling can be an issue for these units as they are quite small with a lot of electronics inside. My advice is try to stream your music via Bluetooth instead of the Hard drive to help reduce disk operations and keep the interior of the car cool with A/C where possible to help keep the unit cool. Some have issues, others have not - probably depends on each user's habits and continuous use of system.

Would it be a solution to mount one CPU cooler on the display body? Perhaps on the nav unit too?

Regarding the wiring diagram, thanks a lot for your involvement. I am pretty curious what you will find.

So this is for an X7 with RT6, with independent telematic unit, without hands free kit (calls handled by RT6 bluetooth):

However, as I said and as you can see this is a different layout from the previous diagram - as these brown connections seem to go into the 8 pin black socket, but the pin outs would agree with Pins 2 & 5. - Yet, this dodn't work with Vborovic - so as long as the power pins are correct, you may need to just try it and see what works.

Brown from Display:
7226 control of the display rheostat
7201 : Colour screen earth
7200 : Colour screen power supply

Thanks a lot for the diagram. I will start first by installing the two wires and leave the third one which is for rheostat. I am not an electrical engineer, but mechanical engineer, so I do not know what a Rheostat is. Perhaps can this be used to start and stop the coolers?

And regarding the coolers, I have to find the info if their purpose are to prevent heating of the display just, or also for the unit. I have to localize them on the seller’a car and ask for them. Is there any information where can I link two wires for a fan in order to control it automatically, depending on the temperature?

The rheostat in this application is used to increase or decrease the display back lighting (like for your instrument display). But as I already said, the colours and display can be adjusted in the configuration menu directly - so that is probably why it is not needed.

I just found out that the pin 5 is used just for DG4 color displays. Still checking for the cooler...

Vborovic is saying first that from myway to emyway he had just to replace the display and unit. But after that he is mentioning about the fans. For me here is an interruption of the logique.

And here a photo: seems that the fan unit is connected to the nav itself but what pins?
