Lidl are small but apparently growing and have just overtaken Waitrose for market share.

And their market share can only grow if more and more of the likes of me defect to them...

If only they'd sell non-dairy yogurt :(

It must be quite upsetting for the major supermarkets - they spend years and years adapting their stores and honing their 'customer experience' to align it with what the consultants say the public want, when all the public really want is cheap food from no-frills stores !
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

That's all we want, along with decent quality and Aldi and Lidl have it in spades :)

I was really very surprised at just how good those two stores are nowadays...

The major supermarkets deserve everything they get, they've been ripping us all off for years to fund their constant war with each other which, certainly in Tesco's & Sainsbury's case is far more important than pandering to customers.

Not sure about no frills though, if that's what we all really wanted - Ed's would've been a run away success! Also Lidl & Aldi stores are much the same wherever you go, although in Germany they ARE the major chains, the discounters (as the meeja insists on calling them) are the likes of PennyMarkt.

Steve, you had me worried for a minute... I never, ever had you down as a DM reader

It's booze so of no interest to me whatsoever but I'd have been annoyed if all these people trying to buy it slowed up and interfered with my weekly shop...

It staggers me at how much space in all foodstores is given over to booze. There must be a hell of a market for it and judging by how much there is then the UK population must be largely addicted...

A sad state of affairs....

No, bloody awful rag!
The Beeb, The Indy, The Gruniad, Dagens Nyheter, Göteborgs Posten and Borås Tidning are the only ones I read.

Pathetic how desperate they appear to be, needing booze at that time of day :)
I always wait until at least half past eight

As for selling before 10am, haven't a clue.
I presumed that the licensing laws had pretty much been abandoned.

I succumbed to a special in Aldi today... They were knocking out vinyl LPs for £1.99 each... Bought one called "The 60s - Sounds of a Decade"

It's not bad. Quality is OK and the selection of tracks on it is very good...

Very much shades of the old K-Tel and MFP LPs of the 70s and 80s :)
