Pleased you used 'enthusiast' to describe an amateur radio operator there Neil :)

Yes those were my original words Jim...I just cut and pasted the "fanatic" paragraph from the description of the vid on you tube! (now just about corrected if you give me 30 seconds!)

The website for a local paper has the oddest of options......highlighted below

Perfect Neil :) Thanks!

It's just that we've suffered from a negative image for donkey's years of being a bit weird, cranks and a bunch of misfits amongst many other derogatory terms and those sorts of words just reinforce it sadly...

As in all absorbing hobbies and pastimes some are certainly weird - as I know a few Citroen people are - but the very vast majority of us are just ordinary, normal people...

People just like me in fact ;)

That's right Jim, why waste time talking to people when you can text them  Someone told me about that rescue yesterday - on the radio. :)

Peter, I'd rather talk than text in any situation... Must be my age but as the old advert once said (for BT telephones I think).. 'It's good to talk...'

Maybe it's my age or that it's still quite a novelty to me given that I did not finally become fluent in speech until I was in my mid-40s....

I'm just the opposite Jim. I hate talking on phones and always put off using them as long as possible.
Years in some cases, never ever in others :(
Would far rather text or email.
Or go and see someone in person.

Now that's best of all Steve ;)

I'm not keen on long talks on the 'phone I must admit... Talking face-to-face is the very best by far...

Person, Phone, other is my order of preference.
I get misunderstood by text so often that it's easier to just say what I need to with my voice.

To notice this notice you have to look down, but to notice what the notice directs you to notice you have to look both down and up.....

Only in Milton Keynes :-D Any locals noticed this notice?

http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-7FzCWuvssNk/V ... 99-800.jpg

and...from the same "town trail"

Should you be in any doubt what this notice wants you to notice, it's there as a subliminal command, an icon, in words, and in chemical formula, which once seen you can't physically or mentally resist. If you notice the notice you will inevitably notice that which the notice is directing you to notice.....

Regards Neil

PS.. and a notice of encouragement to notice notices when you are out and about

Umm, that's a new one on me Neil... Clearly something I've not yet run past and seen...

I rather like it and must dig deeper into it...

These days I'm running all over Milton Keynes...

This is where it came from Jim

http://languagelandscapesmiltonkeynes.b ... power.html

Starts off with (my comment in blue)
In this local town within Milton Keynes, we have a town walk. (so maybe not MK centre itself...edit it is in fact Wolverton)

I am not convinced, by the way, that the town walk has been installed for the benefit of tourists. I think it is here, like the community artist, to engage the residents with our own town; to help develop a sense of history, and engender shared values about preservation of heritage.

Ahh :D Now I know! Wolverton is a place I rarely visit apart from an occasional visit to Tesco. Sadly, it is an old railway town and has little appeal...

I have run through it once but the run route did not take us where those markers are... I do know now precisely where they are... In the vicinity of one was once a wonderfully superb curry-house...
