Its also of course a lot more fun!!!
I think that saying just buy something faster in the first place is missing the point- if everyone had that attitude then no-one would race BSA Bantams, 2CV's, etc, and instead of a BX I would be driving a Japanese or Korean car, altogether superior in almost every way for the same money!
Remember the late great James Hunt used to drive around in an A35, people said it was because he was skint, but I suspect he could very easily have got a dealer sponsored supercar. No, he said it was for the driving experience- about 30BHP,cross plies, rear wheel drive, and drums all round- he said it took a lot more skill to take to its handling and performance limits than his F1 cars ever did!!!!!!

Oscar Too, your TZD might just be a good un, driven properly with regard to what the turbo is doing and allowed to breathe through the gears they are pretty quick, the chav escrot was probably the 1.3 breathless model, thrashed mercilessly and last serviced in 1998, my old untouched one could see 115 MPH on occasion.

I just don't see the appeal of the Nova full stop. One of my mates in high school had a 1ltr B' reg, can honestly say it was the nastiest little sh*tbox I've ever had the misfortune to ride in....handled like a pig also. He liked the way they looked?!!?

When I met the now wife she too had a VX Nova, I called it "nasty the Nova" it was the WORST small car I have ever driven and I like Vauxhall cars (had 5). Still could be worse, a lad around here by me has a...... Nova Saloon 4 door with a whale tail, big bore exhaust pipe and alloys of at least 15 inch. Oh and it's olive green in colour.

This happened to me many moons ago. I was at the lights on my Suzuki GSX-R1100 when alongside pulls some red braces wearing gimp in a porker 911. I look across, he revs. Ah ha! thinks me, he wants to race. No prob, the jixer will smack 90 in 1st gear before the rev limiter chomps in, he ain't got a hope, so I rev back. He revs some more, I rev and the V & H exhaust sounds like a werewolf at midnight. The lights change and he goes smoking off at warp 5 whilst I sedately turn left into work. Eeejut.

Now thats funny.
I did a similar thing to a guy in a jag. Me on VFR**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] 750 with yoshi pipe on, sounded very fit. we both reved up, he sped off and got himself in the wrong lane behind some slow traffic so i sauntered past well within the speed limit, twas funny.

when younger i was driving a talbot samba (yes i know) cant remember the engine size but the oil filter stuck out the top of the engine and it was really slow (or are they all like that)...so i am at some traffic lights when a saab 900 pulls up alongside, when it comes time to pull away my samba actually out accelerates him up to about 25 mph.... i think this must have upset him (as he certainly seemed to be trying very hard lots of screeching tyres) and he finally must have worked out how to actually put power on to the ground rather than just spinning his wheels as he went past me like a bullet...... unfortunately he failed to notice that the next traffic lights were red and must have gone through them at sixty....quite a surreal expirience as i dont think the samba passed thirty between the two sets of lights and i hadnt even tried to beat him away .......
