When we first moved down here you could dial you could dial exchanges outside the local at local rate by adding the digit that you dialed from a more distant exchange.

Re: Notices..what have you spotted?
Talking about old phones boxes, back about 1986 I was out in the wilds of Herefordshire delivering a car to a buyer, I needed to phone home and along a wild overgrown lane I saw a phone box, to my amazement I found that it still had the old phone and the press A press B buttons and "put 4 pennies in the slot."
Obviously one that had been 'lost and forgotten" by BT but it still had a dialing tone.
Couldn't use it, I only had decimal coins

Man is, by nature, a lazy beast, he does not need twice encouraging to do nothing.

Re: Notices..what have you spotted?
Maybe a universal "Get off your phone" symbol/sign/logo needs inventing. In the meantime the DIY notice on a bit of paper will have to suffice.....
This one hits a necessary shaming tone, but in certain circumstances a simple blunt "Get off your Phone" without the additional words of obvious justification may be suitably more in your face.

Re: Notices..what have you spotted?
I like that one Neil... It's unbelievable how so many people these days are utterly welded to their phones...
What on earth are they doing on them all the time?
It baffles me...

Came across the "Bristol Post" website article on the radio enthusiast who helped save a girl's life.
The website for a local paper has the oddest of options......highlighted below
