Good evening from a sunny Mullion Cove Cornwall.
I wonder if someone can assist, we recently purchased a 2003 C5 petrol 1997 automatic estate.
I have added a picture of the engine.
The oil dipstick may have the original top, but the shaft is a length of clear plastic with no markings on it.
The end is touching the oil .
Would any of you gentlemen with the same engine in the photo, be kind enough to measure the length of the oil dipstick to the max and the min markings.
The car was only £200 has leather seats and runs well, just replaced a drop link so no more noise over bumps : )
It had an auto box problem which occrued intermittently, but I found a posting somewhere that suggested waiting 10 seconds after inserting the key before engaging the starter motor.
So far the gear box has not gone into get you home mode since : )
Who knows : )

Re: Length of engine dipstick
Hi and welcome to the Forum.
There was a known issue with some of the dipsticks across the ranges, where it broke off - I think some have replaced theirs with metal ones now, but I'm sure someone will be along to help you shortly.

Hello Spiff
Had enough of that satellite malarkey then? Can't help with your problem here though. For the benefit of others who might be able to help I presume that your petrol engine is the ordinary one not the ferociously unreliable HPi variant (maybe that was never paired with auto box though).
Good luck.
EDIT
The photo has just shown up and I can see that it's not the HPi engine so forget what I said above except for the Good Luck wishes!

Hallo Paul-R
Thank you for your reply.
Hope you are keeping well : )
The KU and C band dishes are all up and running, the installation and setting up is the part I am more interested in than chasing specific sats.
So a bit of a lull in that hobby at the moment, I have old clocks, vintage radio and film projectors as well, so tend to alternate between them : )
Fitted some drop links to the C5 a couple of days ago, this car has renewed my interest in playing with vehicles.
Its greasy finger nail time.

Very few petrol C5s on here, if any.
Can you visit a scrapyard and extract one?

Good evening from a wet Mullion Cove Cornwall. : )
it is looking like we shall have to, Alanna carries a tape measure in her bag, so if we come across one we can always ask.
Quite a few C5s at the local boot sale each Wednesday, not for sale but a popular car for boot sale goers, I shall have to hope we come across a petrol one.
The engine has done 150000 and sounds fine.

Re: Length of engine dipstick
PSA dipsticks seem to have earned themselves something of a reputation for falling apart. Used to be just the yellow plastic tops that crumbled; now it seems the bottom ends are dropping off?
Perhaps we should put together a table, with models/engines/lengths/markings dimensions.
This data isn't published anywhere, SFAIK.
Between us, we must have almost every type covered.
Time to get out the tape measures on dipsticks still in good nick.
All dimensions need to be from carrier-tube top, I would think.

So true, the top of the dipstick in the old Xsara HDi came off (oo-err missus) in my hand.

Re: Length of engine dipstick
This is the first time in 50 years I have ever come across a problem with a dipstick, it is not something you expect to have a problem with : )
New ones at £15 are a bit pricey, there are others at less .99p from Hong Kong sounds good but not sure any of them are for my petrol C5.
As soon as I sort it out I will post the length.
I would much sooner make one or adapt one than buy one, nothing to do with the cost. Honest : )
Been playing with the sat dishes today Paul R.
Sunny day here God Bless Spiff

Re: Length of engine dipstick
Here's a first one, for what will hopefully become a long list...
Measurements are from dipstick tube top, downwards:
XM 2.5TD (DK5ATE engine)
High mark, 410mm
Low mark, 443mm

Re: Length of engine dipstick
Dipstick repair
Having had the yellow top of a dipstick split and crumble, a repair was effected by using a standard Hozelock-type 1/2" connector. Remains of the yellow top cut off, and the new cap secured to the top of the dipstick with a bit of rubber sleeving and adhesive. Upper end of the steel strip bent over by 3mm to provide positive anchorage.
The snout of the connector was turned down slightly to fit the dipstick tube, and the O-ring retained to provide a seal. The threaded top was blanked with a 1/2" BSP screw-in (red) cap.
Maybe not original, but tidy enough. Distance to the High/Low markings was preserved.
