Vans been to the garage. They spent 20 mins going over it and have said the turbo pipe is soot. The oil leak is the sump plug. Despite taking ramp time this was done for free.

Booked in for an oil change and new sump plug on thursday. I've already recommended them in the relevent section, Romsey fast fit are a really good garage.

What is meant by the turbo pipe being 'soot' James?

Is it full of it?

Oops. I meant that there is soot rather than oil around the pipe. They tightened it up for me today.

None at all.
They've thrown in a free courtesy car for me on Thursday too.
I wish all garages were like this then I'd not have to scrutinise work on my parents cars so much.

Total cost for the lot is under £100 which I think is really good.
They have a proper coffee machine that grinds beans in a comfy waiting area as well.
I probably drank their profit in Mochas today.

I'm going away for a week or two.
I won't have forum access so please don't pm me or ask me about anything important until I'm back.
Thanks

That, and the knowledge that there are friends here who were concerned.

Quick update.
Xantia has had a really good clean, so good that the jet washer took some of the paint off of the door trims.
It also has a flat battery which now I've charged up has left the alarm playing silly buggers.
It flattened again in a day so probably I have to add a battery to the shopping list.

I now have all the parts now to fix the oil leak bar the ones I must pick up on Saturday from Citroen.
I had to order the tensioner as I don't know which is currently fitted.
I've decided it's Schrodingers tensioner as it's both until I take off the cover.
Of course I had to buy one as if I don't it'll be the old type and now I have it'll be the new type fitted.

Desperate to find a working plop now and fix the car before it turns to a citroen shape rusty heap on the driveway.
I'm probably going to try an aftermarket kit like Petef has on his Activa.
I did prefer the idea of going original at first but at £20ish each for used plops that may be knackered I think £10 for a brand new kit with 30x the range and a warranty is probably wiser.
I'm deferring that for a week though in case an original comes up through the forum for a more reasonable price, I like original even if the range is 30cm.

I'll be doing the jobs I can while I wait to do the cambelt and oil leak.
First will be to regrease the inner cv joints and put some metal zip ties around the boots as they are both missing one and it's made a right mess.
I'll also be tackling the strut tops, the headliner and the central locking.
There are a few odd jobs as well, couple of things to Araldite, adjust or tidy up.
Everything else after that needs money (pollen filter, fuel filter and brakes) so will be after the engine work is finished.
Not sure if 'm going to overhaul the LHM pump before, during or after the engine work.
I may need to do the cambelt first to see how to remove the pump

The Van hasn't been seen for a while, it's out partying with its mates.
I have a Mitsibushi Warrior at the moment and I'm really looking forward to getting the Van back.
The Warrior isn't a patch on the Navara pick up at all even though it looks meaner.
It's quite typical of Jap motors really, very narrow and a hard seat that has the headrest preset for a dwarf.
It's not actually bad, it just doesn't fit me and isn't as drivable as the Navara.
In fact it's really useful around the farm and would be handy to have here.
The engine isn't really suited to doing heavy work though, it has a really narrow power band for a modern diesel.
I'd prefer a van and a quad if I had my way and I may just manage that as the MD is here tomorrow and he'll see just how difficult it is to run this place without some sort of 4wd load lugger.
He'll be taking his pickup back hopefully and leaving me a Boxer which I've actually rather missed.
