Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
I still havent found a suitable reccommendation Jim. May have to ask google.
Do you have your date for Beaulieu? I was intending to tag along until I realised it was a weekdays visit. I'd like to get your ticket as a birthday treat if you havent already arranged it.

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Thanks James, that's wonderful but there's no need you know
I've nothing arranged yet and given the current state of my health it's unlikely to happen at all; I don't have it in me at the moment - hence my inability to attend the National yesterday...
I purposely arrange nothing in advance; I have plans but no arrangements if that makes sense
If current form continues I'll just be riding around locally to New Milton and spending a lot of time doing very little except trying to recover...
I will be good to go out for a meal as long as I can get to you and the navigation is not too difficult
Meals out I enjoy immensely - wherever we go should be vegetarian and preferably vegan

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Ok Jim, I won't get it.
Maybe in the future we can go to Beaulieu together, who knows?
I'm not hard to find from New Milton but it is about a 40 minute drive.
I can pop over and pick you up with the van if you don't feel up to the driving come meal day, just let me know at the time.
I'd love to show you where I live as it's really special but thats not important really.
So long as we have a good time I'm happy.
I suspect you'll go home feeling refreshed and energised.
It's that kind of place and you'll be spoiled for bike rides as you well know.

Excellent James, I'm sure I'll be soon energised as soon as I get there and we'll make final arrangements then
Really looking forward to it and yes, one of these days it'll be great to go to Beaulieu together

I've just spent the last 30 minutes searching for the links Jim kindly put in my blog, twice, for changing the V6 cambelt. Can't find them anywhere, can anyone else see them?

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Ok So I think I've got nearly enough cash to do the timing belt and wave goodbye to my oil leaks.
Heres a list of what I think I need.
Please add to it what I have missed, especially the bits to lock up the engine.
Parrafin 10L webstore, £15.00
Tensioner?, Ebay, £60
Teng 3/8 and 1/4 Torque wrench, ebay, £96
TDC Gauge, ebay, £26.50
Other inlet manifold gasket £10 x 2
Inlet Manifold Gasket, Citroen, £10.00
Water Pump Meyle ebay, £48.00
Air blow Gun, ebay, £5.00
Coolant Comma Red, ebay, £13.50
Aux Belt, Mr Auto, £13.00
Cambelt Gates, mr auto, £49
Loctite, Got
Strut Tops, Got
Droplinks,£34.80 Mr Auto
Spark plugs
spark plug leads
LHM Pump Seals £8
Total left, £207.50
I'll do the LHM pump at the same time seen as the Alternator belt is off, I expect that adds roughly £25 for the 6 seals
(2 x 402688 and 6 x 402687)
Should be able to buy the lot within 2 weeks!
Will I need to get anything special to mark the cam positions or will a paint pen / Sharpie do the trick.

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Can't you find a complete belt kit - or are they only available for humbler engines?
£1.50 per litre for parrafin? Used to be (a lot) cheaper than petrol! Surely propreitary cleaning fluid isn't THAT expensive?

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
I swiped 5L of Gunwash to clean my engine with*.
Have to be careful as it is horrendously flammable and ruins tarmac if it drips on it.
*left over from an extracurricular job for work.

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Parrafin was just a rough guess so probably is cheaper, hopefully anyway.
I've always used parrafin for cleaning carbon and old gaskets so it's become my goto cleaner for this type of stuff. Inside the rocker covers is well coated on my engine so I intend to give them a good overnight soak in the stuff.
Complete belt kit is mega money for the es9 engine and not really necessary. I was going to go down that route until advised otherwise.

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
There's 3 rollers; citroen prices:
Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
0000083058 ROLLER 2 78.88 GBP 94.66 GBP 189.32 GBP
0000083059 ROLLER 1 77.83 GBP 93.40 GBP 93.40 GBP
Total excl. VAT 235.59 GBP
Total incl. VAT 282.72 GBP
I think it's recommended to change the tensioner to the later type; this is for the C5 ES9JS:
Part Number Description Quantity Price excl. VAT Price incl. VAT Total incl. VAT Selection
00000829C5 BRACKET PLATE 1 194.2 GBP 233.04 GBP 233.04 GBP
Total excl. VAT 194.20 GBP
Total incl. VAT 233.04 GBP
You can get it much cheaper than that though: eg E-bay
There is some mod required to the water pump to fit it - Jim will know.
You really need a set of pins, given that it's got 4 vernnier sprockets!!

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Thanks Richard, searching for the tensioner was troubling me.
I still need to see which type I have already on the car.
The rollers aren't being changed unless they are worn out. Ill cross that bridge when I reach it. Consensus when I asked before was they are usually good to keep.
I got the water pump mod from Mikes writeup, simply need to chop off a lug unless the later pump is used but i haven't found that yet.
I always used bolts for locking up the xud9 cambelt. Will they not suffice in this case?

Re: Elmas Xantia V6 and Musical Stuff
Early pump is 1201C7 - as little as £40 on ebay.
Later pump is 1201F6 - around £50 on ebay, e.g. this one
