2009 Citroen C5 vibrates on Acceleration.

Unread post by titch »

My 2009 C5 2.2hdi vibrates through the body not steering wheel when accelerating, it is worse between 1500-2300 rpm in second gear and more prominent when going up hill although when lifting off power it goes. It happens on other gears above 1st gear going up hill and when hard accelerating on the motor way. the 2 driveshafts have been replaced and have new tyres and wheels have been balanced. The clutch has a good bight with no vibration on peddle at tick over or in gear stick. Does anyone have theories on what could be wrong as the Mechanic has just said let it get worse which is open to having further issues.

Well don't laugh, but I had an annoying vibration too - exactly as you said on accelerating and going up hill. Went out for a longish run with a Citroen Tech to try and pin it down - result a loose engine / exhaust shield vibrating! They checked it out and tightened them up - all gone now. Sometimes they can get moved out of alignment when having work done and it only makes a noise under certain conditions.

It was loud enough to make me think something serious was loose - that's not the funny part!

+1 on exhaust/shield touching the body, made more than 1 or 2 folks days when revealing that the expensive sounding noise was not the car on it's last legs at all but just the exhaust needing a tweak... it can even sound like a big end is gone at tickover, at least on a 1.8D 205 lol.

I've started to notice the same on my car when flooring it. Appears to be around 1800-2200rpm and can be reduced by backing off the throttle a bit and yes, it does feel as if there's something extremely unbalanced in the engine and I remain very skeptical it can be cured by re-alignment of a heat shield, but I'd also be extremely relieved too if that's the cure!!

In my case, I've had a fair bit of work done under there, what with the Clutch, (twice), DMF, Crank shaft Oil Seal, A/C Compressor & Condenser and the usual servicing, so plenty of opportunities for a shield to get knocked out of alignment.

For your C5, here's the Heat Shield setup - mine and the OP's will be different as they are X7s. I never had an issue on my Mark II TBH. This is for the saloon, but take your pick! :-D

Sorry not trying to be awkward but due to my condition, I'm loathe to go crawling under a car on spec due to additional suffering it can cause me, hence why I asked if it was easy to spot and whereabouts I should look. I'm not being lazy, just trying to be more efficient. Appreciated all the same.

No problems, I let the garage sort it out as I can't get under a car these days either Mike.

Mine does the same and I've not bothered trying to fix it because after getting under there and giving a pull on the shield it goes away but comes back again, I think it started when I replaced the handbrake cable tubes and had the shield part way down.
