As a lad I had much fun with Quicklys Dave, got to know them extremely well... The hard-chromed cylinder bores were a right problem and so was finding a decent two-speed gearbox layshaft - they were forever breaking as a result of too-enthusiastic gear changes!

I'd completely restored and rebuilt a fine example just before my 16th birthday... 798 JYC - wonder if it ever survived?

It even had a proper speedo fitted in the headlamp. A very rare accessory!

Results are in now for this
Friday 28th April 2017 South West Vehicle Auctions Poole-results

One "bargain" straightaway-one of my favourites was sold for £575 plus buyers premium, a Rover 2000 SC Auto 1972 lot number 3 :-D

Have a look at the Citroen CX reflex Familiale 1985 see what it went for....

https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/citr ... iale-1985/

..and the Citroen SM roughly 140 times more valuable than the CX!

https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/citr ... rati-1971/

And what became of the the nice little Renault 4 with the tartan interior trim? Went for more than double the estimate.

https://www.swva.co.uk/classic-car/renault-4-gt-l-1986/

Regards Neil

PS...Not a great auction for the CX sellers this 1983 example went for even less than the 1985 one above.

Cor! The CX and P6 were bargains!

The R4 made a very healthy sum and well deserved too...

Results are in for the Historics Auction at Ascot Racesourse on 20th May 2017. I always like a peruse to see what's selling, probably quite a lot over the £10K limit for being strictly on-topic with the thread!

Full List
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... ke=&model=

The pair of Renault Avantimes with no reserve which I wondered if they could be "bargains". I think not for 02 and 03 reg cars......
Renaults
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... ult&model=
Citroens
£12K bought you a DS, and £20K and SM
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... ABn&model=
Rover P6
Looks like it didn't meet its reserve so will be sold another day
http://www.historics.co.uk/buying/aucti ... r&model=p6

...and if you want a decent Ford Capri, it appears that the owners aren't letting them go until the price approaches £20,000. The only Capri sold fetched more than the SM. There was a Cortina Mk II convertible by friends of the thread Crayford which sold for around £12,000.

Some huge prices there Neil for what frankly I'd consider to be tat.

That 1600 Capri, the exact model that I sold in first class condition back in 1990 for £300.

I had a tidy Capri 2 litre Ghia bought for £50 and sold for £130 in 1993.

The only Capri worth having is the 3.0 or 2.8. Lovely.

That 3 Litre Capri turned into a nightmare for most owners once it got a few miles on, the front suspension and steering rubber bushes/mounts got soggy and the ride was dreadful, felt as though the front wheels were about to fall off and diagnosing it was all but impossible.

You've got to be able to pick one of these up for under £10,000 still.

That CX was brilliant, I have never seen a rust free one. Another car I wouldn't mind having again is a Humber super Snipe, or even a Hawk, quite luxurious in their time although a bit thirsty, the 3.0. litre Snipe with the Zenith carb particularly, I think I was getting about 17 mpg although the earlier one with the complicated Stromberg was doing about 25 mpg,

I saw a couple at a local show a few years ago and they still look nice now.

I worked a lot on Snipes and Hawks, great cars and on Sunbeam Talbots at the times, like you I'd love to own a late Super Snipe but they're few and far between.
One here at the Coleford show.
